    Your Funeral Dirge

Rock songs create funeral atmosphere | The Australian

reading this story and having the theme song thread which was some one else nominating the music.

I think "Comfortably Numb" would be a suitable requiem for me.

    Rock songs create funeral atmosphere

By staff writers and AAP | July 02, 2008

IT'S unlikely a mournful sombre mood could prevail through a funeral rendition of Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.
But this was a last musical message played at a final farewell in South Australia and it is part of an increasing trend away from hymns towards popular, rock and novelty songs, a leading funeral provider says.
Other funeral ceremonies have been accompanied by the blaring rock tones of Another One Bites The Dust, Stairway to Heaven or even Highway to Hell.
Centennial Park's top 10 funeral songs:
1 - My Way (Frank Sinatra)
2 - Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)
3 - Time To Say Goodbye (Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman)
4 - Unforgettable (Nat King Cole)
5 - The Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler)
6 - Amazing Grace (various artists)
    7 - We'll Meet Again (Vera Lynn)
8 - Over The Rainbow (Judy Garland)
9 - Abide With Me (Harry Secombe)
10 - Danny Boy (various artists)
Centennial Park's most unusual funeral songs:
1 - The Show Must Go On (Queen)
2 - Stairway To Heaven (Led Zeppelin)
    3 - Highway To Hell (AC/DC)
4 - Another Ones Bites The Dust (Queen)
    5 - I'll Sleep When I'm Dead (Bon Jovi)
6 - Always Look On The Bright Side of Life (Monty Python)
7 - Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead (The Wizard of Oz)
8 - Hit The Road Jack (Willie Nelson)
9 - I'm Too Sexy (Right Said Fred)
10 - AFL club songs of Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

    1) Personal Jesus - Johnny Cash version - not religious but it would make me laugh knowing that was being played
    2)Angel by Goldie.

3)Possibly the sound track from Requiem for a Dream.

    4) Hanger 18 Megadeth

I'd be happy if they took my ipod and just hit shuffle. It could be anything from Aphex Twin, Jeff Buckley, AC/DC, Squarepusher, Metallica, Bob Dylan or some weird obscure stuff. I couldnt give a monkeys really, plus I'd be dead so I couldnt hear it.

'Perfect Day' - Lou Reed & 'Wonderful Life' - Black. Been planning those for years. Might also be tempted to add to my dirge list 'Wish You Were Here' - Pink Floyd and maybe even 'November Rain'

Frank Sinatra's My Way, but I will rewrite the words to fit my exotic lifestyle and pace up the tempo a tad.

Failing that, maybe the Synergy/Larry Fast version of Brave new world.

Failing that, Red priest's version of Vivaldi's Winter from The Four Seasons.
