1000 baht notes, love 'em and hate them

What does 1000 baht mean to you?

Out of the hands of mine my missus controls my finances, she could live off 60 baht a day no problem. Whereas I have an uncontrollable urge to spend my money on sh*t, mainly beer. I first came to Thailand 5 years ago on a classic "lets get wasted" attitude spending 1000 baht notes like five pound notes (GBP); 1000 baht notes were just a piece of paper, no value, just beer tokens.

I still look and though living and working here, 1000 baht notes are in my pocket as an outlet to go mental; why is it being abroad I decide to spend cash like this? I have a Thai wife of 3 years and still decide to go a bit crazy if she releases such money. I then realise in this cheaper country that I choose to reside in I've spent just as much money as I could possibly back home,

What is 1000 baht in your eyes? Does it hurt when you spend more than 1000 on beer?

When I brought my Honda accord about 2 years ago it cost me 1,300.00 Baht to fill the tank.
Today it cost me 2,300.00 Baht and that extra 1,000 Baht hurts mentally.

1,000.00 Baht on a pissup. I wish. Very rarely get out of the places I drink for less the 1,500 to 2,000 Baht. I find spending money on my personal enjoyment more easy to handle.

What's really annoying that 1,000 Baht is still the biggest note. That's just 20 Euros r 15 GBP (I think). They should introduce at least 5,000 baht notes.

When I first got here I threw 1000 baht notes around like monopoly money also. 2 girls and some drinks 3k-5k. Some weeks nearly every night. Sometimes for fun I'd drag a couple of girls into Ocean Plaza and buy them underwear. (It's fun watching them try on underwear)
That was when I was still flush with cash from flying airplanes where I would make $800.00 USD a day.
Those days are gone. I think like a Thai about money now. 100 baht now is somtam, bbq chicken and sticky rice for two.

I was a bit loose with the 1000's for the first 6 months or so. Treated them like $10 bills, even though they were worth $25 at the time. Got over that and went back to my normal Scot-like ways when I noticed my monthly interest income had depleted to nearly half. Also decided to get a job

Agree --- the biggest in Korea is the 10,000 won note - that's about 300 baht.

When DD and I first arrived in Thailand, there was no such thing as 1,000 Baht note. 500 was the biggest available note.

Guess that applies to a few other too.

Fabs, I don't think 1,000 Baht notes were introduced until the early to mid 90s

7-11's nationwide are probably blocking it. They would love to be giving change for 10 odd 5,000bt notes every day when someones buying a bottle of 7bt water.

And I thought it was only me that did that...

I hate 1,000bt notes. I either only have them & no change or I go out grocery shopping with only one, thinking it'll be plenty, and find out it wasn't.

Wow I have been here 25 years. Never seen a one baht note, and cokes were never 50 stang to my knowledge. Remember how big the old one baht coins were, and there was a 10 baht note.
