    Taxicunters in happyland

My wife - bringing my son home from school today, was told to get out of the taxi at the beginning of the soi and walk the rest of the way, as the taxi spied a farang waiting for a taxi there.

She shouldn't have gotten out of the taxi, but had the nipper with her, so didn't want the driver to get nasty.

She got his number and also phoned up the Bkk radio station. So if you've just heard on the wireless a very angry Thai woman in full frying-pan mode, that was her.

Bollocks, one or two bad ones, but generally they give me zero bother.

It's funny, but the less frequently I use them, the more problems I seem to have with them.

Was she carrying heavy shopping bags? Is it a long way? Does she need to carry your son? If none of those apply, what's the problem? My soi is narrow with no turning. I often get dropped off at the top of the soi. I only get pissed off if I have loads of shopping. Even then, they still do it.

I know what you mean. I used them nearly every day in BKK when I lived there and got say 1 idiot per month. Now when I go there I seem to get idiots all the while, dont want to go where you need to or giving it the "150bt" for a short trip when youre 10 metres down the road. Im going to BKK tomorrow so I'll probably get at least one even though Im only there for 6 hours. Photos may follow

I think the point is that to be ordered to alight (when you haven't finished the agreed journey) is somewhat against the rules and spirit of carriage.

...anyway, for a change - good to hear her angry about a man other than .......myself

Thats not something I would immediately think actually exists inside the mind of a Bangkok taxi driver, or any other Asian city for that matter

    ^ Or for bus companies.

I got on a bus once, paid the fare, and off we went. About 50 metres down the road it got pulled over by a policeman, the driver didn't have his license or something, so everyone piled out got on the next bus(same company, same bus number) and paid the fare again.

When I pay a fare I presume I'm paying for the service, to get from point A to point B, not for the bus that I'm on. After all I'm not buying the bus, I'm buying the journey. That's the reason for having tickets, right? To prove you've paid for the trip?

Anyway, for some reason the conductor ignored me and I didn't pay again. Saved a whole 5 baht there. But seriously, that small amount could've been the difference between some starving peasant getting a fried egg on top of their 20 baht fried rice or not.

Silly fool. Some of us ferrangs make the worst of passengers. I wish I was the one he abandoned your misses for, he wouldn't have tried that stunt again.

There used to be a mock advert in the UK in the 80's (to convince the public to use trains - This is the age of the train! - you know if you were there...) of a train being pulled over by the police for speeding.

Only the Thais could elevate this satire into reality...

I'd have thought that if she didn't reach her destination, she didn't have to pay.

Haven't had too many problems here in BKK, other than they don't speak English and sometimes get lost. Go anywhere outside of BKK, and taxi drivers are complete cnuts. Their behavior is the worst on Phuket, Samui, and Hat Yai.

I've lost count of the number of times I've jumped in a taxi, told the guy where I want to go, he nod's, 10 mins later he's going the wrong way, 5 mins after that he's lost. Bloody unbelievable.

One night I was quite drunk, and I jumped 3 taxi on the way home, the fuckers kept going the wrong way or taking wrong turns,

I couldn't believe it, by the time I had jumped those, I could almost walk home

I've leapt out of a handful of cabs over the years and told the driver to go fuck himself. Stuck in traffic after the fool didn't heed my directions.

Also, used a pen knife to carve up the upholstery of more than a few who proved themselves to be cunts.
