I've just read Stephen Leather's "Private Dancer" in one go this afternoon. I've never read it before & have heard varying reviews. Strangely the views seem to be from the two extremes - it's very true to life & everyone coming to Thailand should read it, or it's a pile of crap.
So, which is it? I found it fairly, but not completely, true to life. The end sounded like Shitman's story. However, I found it entertaining & could relate most characters to people I know.
Anyone read it & got any opinions? I'm particularly interested in the hypothesis that bar girl/farang relationships are doomed to failure. That's not the impression I'd got from living here - in some cases, sure, but not nearly all.
