I have observed it, but never got past the front cover... Just enough for my imagination to do the rest (minus the Sweeny Todd prop).

but it seems bar cashier/ farang relationships are quite succesful

So what's the ending of the story? You can tell me by pm so I save on reading that book.

Naah, I'll tell you here. He gets shot by a hitman hired by his bg's sister (he's also tried to screw her relationship with an American, but 'luckily' the American is too gullible to believe him)

i think it was Mexico not Spain. The common market has really spoiled the bestiality scene in Europe (apart from Wales obviously where they have some kind of exemption)

I knew a chap called Gxxxxxxx Love. (unfortunate name)

He fell for a 16 year old dancer in his mates girlfriends band/karaoke show.

Didn't bone her at first, just sort of fathered her (he was only 21 at the time). ended up quiting his job at my old school and moving to Bangkok to live in a one roomed place to be near her. Broke it off a bit later.

He used to stay out until 5am come into work and talk about how wonderful she was. Yet all he saw of her was a few hours a night after the show.

He as quite endeared by her tattoo on her hand saying - Sex Tong - in worship of her first boyfriend.

Last heard that G. Love was still in Bangers doing meth and ripping of foreigners.

To answer the OP, in my younger, less responsible days, the book is almost word for word true. I experienced close to everything in it, excepting the hitman at the end.

So my vote is somewhere in between, and anyone who says that the whole book is bollox, obviously just has not experienced same.

I'd go with somewhere in between, as well. A lot of the situations and behaviour described in it are fairly common. It probably wouldn't do any harm for some of the guys arriving in Thailand for the first time intending to get involved in that scene to give it a read first, so they know a little more about what they're dealing with.

The story is true (ish) and based upon clientel and the owner of Jools' Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 4 a number of years ago.

Less responsible? That's hard to imagine.

It's fiction. That's how it works. The author gets a bunch of locations and people and bits and pieces of dialogue together and tries to make something coherent and entertaining with it all. Then readers decide whether they like it or not.

I'm flattered to see my own effort mentioned in the same thread as PD. I registered just so I could say that.

Girl gets happy ending, moves to Oz with farang , on second thoughts it`s not that happy

A class above is Bangkok Eight by John Burdett, very entertaining and some astute observations about Thai- West mind sets.
Follow up, Bangkok Tattoo is just as good

^"Bangkok 8" is very entertaining.

Also good reads are Jake Needham: "Big Mango" and "Tea Money". Good page turning entertainment.

An enjoyable read.
