Revealing Personal Info to Other Posters

How many of you have been burnt here at Teak Door or other forums when you have revealed personal info to other posters?

I have not, but not much on sharing personal info either. It seems it happens quite a bit. One member gets mad at another and uses the info against the other or slips up on accident.

You can share you story or just yay or nay it here

If you reveal personal things to someone who you meet on the internet its nobodys fault but your own, learn to keep your mouth shut and you won't have any problems. why anyone needs to share their inner most secrets with complete strangers is beyond me.
People take this whole cyber world thing far too serious, apply some common sense and take it for what it is, a little diversion from your day to day grind.
People only know what you choose to tell them.

I've never had the problem. I don't reveal much, however.

We should remember that one poster on this board - his boss was emailed and his moniker and this forum was told to his boss, by some jerk that knew where he worked.

A very cheap, slimey, thing to do.

The photo was of Dalton's burnout. Your ass was something less than a supporting role. You said I could post it anyway. You really should stop shaving it. It'll grow back thicker.

I'll share this with you: My blood type is O neg and I'm a Taurus.

Many people know stuff about me and many think they know stuff about me. People you think are ok can turn into arseholes whether you met them through TD or in real life. It's always a risk, but that's life.

The Internet shit spreader of today is really no different to the village gossip from days of yore that spread rumours and innuendo. Nothing has changed apart from the medium.

I had a guy at my place of work, kind of a physically disabled looking guy who walks with an odd gait, who threatened me because he thought I was some nick on another forum.

    Weirdo!

There certainly are some members around who use any personal info they can glean from other's posts to try to insult them or otherwise upset them

They know who they are and also what prats they are

Oh, I've seen people accused of being certain niks on forums - and to be found out this is completely false.

Very stupid to try to guess who/what nik a person unless they tell you, or you knw them very, very well.

The young chap was a bit gullible to others' opinions, especially a drug addict that worked there.

Back in primary school, he likely would have been called a sped...by the other kids. But not me, I would have realized that there was summin' special in the guy and would have befriended him.

Perhaps this is why he despised his own country so much.

Oh yes, happened to me once on another board quite recently. Someone I met in person later when he got angry with me revealed some information he got in real life. Now that's what I call a breach of trust and privacy.

Illegal drug users and abusers (i.e. ecstacy and marijuana) who are on forums tend to overreact when they believe their personal information has been "magically" dropped by other members of a forum, or when they are confronted with therapeutical reality therapy that's "in the face."

It's typical though, given their reduced level of psychological and emotional functioning.

I would lock my doors to people like that. Just look at what happened with Charles Manson and Patricia Krenwinkel.

^^Do you have some sort of advanced knowledge of the behavioural patterns of forum users who use illegal drugs?

^ There is a difference. Something said at the bar is said one time. The internet, particularly on a forum is imprinted forever and heard over and over and over again with each read!
