It's very difficult going out with people who want to spend when it is above your menas.

If you leave you are a miserable git

If you stay you are a freeloader.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Frankly it's the responsibility of people to recognise that fact and either pay or move on. You cannot expect someone to spend above your means.
You've hit the nail on the head.

The amount of upset caused by my membership on here isn't worth it, a lot of you have met me and know damned well I'm not tight. Pretty much all of you are modest in your choice of drinking holes and have grown out of the gogo scene.

If you leave you are a miserable git
In my particular case, if I'd left I would have just felt like not much of a friend for leaving him alone when his family are away and he wanted a spontaneous night out.

I did offer another round at the slightly less expensive Morning Night bar but there were no girls in there worth shagging so we bit farewell and got our taxis.

Yes, it comes down to greed on the part of CAT. Something confirmed to my be older and wiser farangs and a couple of Thais, but such is life. The bill is 18,622 and is being sorted out this week, hopefully in 4 installments.

You speak like a true friend mate, I'm sure glad we met.

You accept people as they are or not - simple, you don't defame them in public for not playing life by your own rules or how you think they should or should not do things. So I complain about things? That means I am a negative person which can be annoying at times, but I'm a good person and I don't need to hang around here to justify it.

Money meant a lot more to me a few years ago (and not due to the downward spiral of the US dollar either )

These days health and a stress free life mean more to me than money. Having a Mercedes, a nice house, boat and a pocketful of cash, as well as money in the bank were most important to me back in Chicago.

Now living longer and having an easy life without having to work 60 hours a week is what means the most to me.

Of course I would not be able to do live the life I live now, if I did not just about kill myself working hard and making money in my younger years.

You don't have to answer or provide info,

but it sounds like you worked hard, maybe had your own business, and are retired now, Chi. And I think you're younger than me, as I'm 38.

    Good on you.

No it doesn't. You used their service, they sent you a bill, and you don't want to pay it because you are too greedy to pay for something you have used.

If someone commissioned you to make them a video, then took the video and didn't pay you it would be exactly the same thing.

You are now trying to justify your greed by saying 'well the person I am stealing from is greedier than me'.

Talking to a couple of Thais and a couple of 'wiser farangs' to back up your reasoning doesn't help your case.

Just admit the facts, you want to steal from this company because you are greedy and that 18 K could be used for other things.

    Solution (1) Don't conduct a running commentry on your life that simply opens you up to ridicule;

    Solution (2) Have normal thoughts about socialising and other matters, which won't attract derision when you comment on them;

Solution (3) Hand in your membership card, retrieve hat and coat.

Jesus, I don't need you to defend me from any gossip in a TD party, I don't give a fuck of what people are saying behind my back, I know their score already. Anyway, thanks for the thought, but don't try, it's pointless

The friends I was with were not especially wealthy and they had modest incomes, and though I too had an income, it wasn't enough to justify the type of fiscal indifference that Neil the landscape gardener or Jenny the shop manager could afford and yet I sure didn't want to be a bar manager all my life and didn't know how long my own income would last.
Nothing wrong with being tight. I have always been pretty tight, but it's a way of life and if you want to be tight you have to hang around with other tight people or at least people who understand tightness. Tightness is fun and can't get you into all kinds of wonderful adventures if you're with the right people... I remember my first time in London, 5 of us sleeping in a Honda civic, camping in North Wales, homebrew, magic mushrooms......

I have never chased money and have always chosen an easy lifestyle over a well paid job, hence I have never earned more than half of what would be considered a normal wage (in the UK). And yet, I have never felt poor and rarely have I felt the need for more money.

Sorry Scamp, but you started a thread not long ago gloating about being in a limousine to Pattaya and now you say you can't afford a few drinks. Either you are poor, in which case don't go out or you are not, in which case you pay your way, you can't have your cake and eat it.

And the rest of you, if you don't like the way Scampy is, then don't invite him out, or just keep your mouths' shut so you don't look like nasty cunts.

so in summary, Scampy and Nick are tightwads and Blake7 and Butterfly are nasty cunts.

I probably should go in the tightwad camp as well, but can be a nasty [at][at][at][at] too

^if you have ever drunk home-made alcohol, sneaked alcohol into a pub/club or got so drunk before you went to the pub that you didn't have to drink any more then you are firmly in the tightwad section.

You are from Cornwall, so I know the answer is yes to all three.

^ Or going into Asiabooks on the way to the cinema and spending 1000 baht on an Empire magazine and Ben Elton for yourself and then claiming to have no money when asked to pay your way...

Is this the end of a beautiful romance then?

I used to think it was a running joke that he didn't pay his way but obviously we were wrong.

I'm a tight bastard. I hate spending money on anything. Always have been. You can check back on my famous thread "How much money have you spent today" One month I managed to get by on 4000B after paying my rent.

Scampy I have to say that if what Blake7 says is true and you bought yourself Empire magazine and a book then didn't pay your way. You are scum. If it's an exaggeration and you are just a tight twat then you need to reevaluate your relationship with Blake 7 as you seem to be quite fond of him.

Me buying myself a useful birthday present is nobody's business and nothing to do with my attitude to frivolity in downtown Nana.

Throwing away money in expensive gogo bars is fruitless when two people can enjoy a beer in any given number of areas and which I have done with plenty of members here who can vouch for that.

I have never asked if we can go to Nana - the go-go novelty wore off years ago as it should have done with you. I'll say again that I offered to get a final round in at Morning Night but there were no women you fancied short timing. For somebody with a perfectly attractive wife that shouldn't even be an issue anyway.

My discomfort over feeling obliged to fork out at these places you choose to socialize in is not the reason I started this thread, and I never brought the other night into it, though it is part of the whole money issue I find myself in.

I now understand why my mother and closest friends advised me to keep it quiet. I assumed they thought I'd be stupid enough to be parted from it by con men, whereas in actual fact they were merely trying to save me the latest hassle I have brought upon myself.

If that was the case then he should have bid his farewells and gone home.
    I guess so.

This is mostly just Scampy bashing as a sport or passtime. What started out as a reasonable post, which could have produced some interesting views turns into a standard tribal slag fest.

    Time to get drunk.
