Angry RANT THIS SPACE ~ Farang Thai bashers Vs Farang Farang bashers

The title is misleading because it's pigeon-holing and it's labeling and putting people into groups and giving the Defenders of the Realm - you know, those high and mighty enough to believe they are above criticising their adopted country and that their adopted country is above criticism and it's only moaning scumbag foreigners who should go home because they don't have the right to complain about things that are wrong here that affect us and should be right - an excuse to set more divisions and elevate themselves above those farangs who are unworthy in their eyes.

Well I got news for you DrBob and Stroller et all, there are no divisions - we are all the same stupid, moronic animal - but we are living in a country that wants to have it's own cake and eat it and keep the plate and examples like my copy and paste below just aren't right and should be complained about in public.

If a Thai gave constructive critique about farangs, hit the weaknesses yet gave credit where it was due - then that Thai may not change anything about it, but he/she would certainly have my respect, and that of other Thais.

Now, if Smeg or somebody like-minded complains about something perfectly valid, there's this farang hierarchy that swoops down and defends against every justified rant and stamps THAI BASHING on the arrest sheet.

This mutated from my camera thread:

I took my camera to the Samsung people in Silom and I got a call today from the dumbass customer service girl saying - in English so broken it needs a fucking overhaul - that to fix my camera would cost 1,900 baht.

'Hmm, at that price I would hope to have it ready before I go to Laos at the weekend.'

"Misderr wiw take abau sewen day"

'Well, for 2,000 baht do you think it would be possible for me to have it ready in five days as I would rather like to take my camera with me on holiday.'

This took three attempts to explain and she got confused and said she would call me back. I could almost hear the cogs and mechanics in her little brain try and compute something that had not been in the staff handbook.

So, I am half expecting a call back. I could go there in person and say the same thing and she would give an inane, nervous little laugh - look over her shoulder and say "Jus one minute please" and go and get somebody else to deal with the situation.

IF I explained the whole thing to her in Thai - which, what with her being a customer service representative and everything, no customer should have to do - but let's say I did; I estimate from her level of dimness that it would confuse her that her own language was passing farang lips - this has happened to me many times from many Thai's of similar dimness - which are plentiful, they are all over the place in uniforms and silly hats and rehearsed smiles.

All you members who bash moaners like me in defence of Thai's in this silly self-blowjob of chivalry - I think it is just that, you need a minority to snoot over and for convenience you convince yourself that is exactly what us-who-complain are doing. Can you not see that some criticism is for a greater good, and that if the criticism is un-constructive it is not the carper who is making it so?

Sometimes we just get fustrated that we are in a country that wants to have it's cake and eat it, that wants the benefits of our society yet not the basic understandings of what makes the few benefits of our society (and very few there are these days) beneficial - it's that simple.

Credit where it's due, Thai's are generally friendly and helpful and there are some wonderful individuals here. In six and a half years I have had the pleasure to know some very sharp and intelligent Thai's - but shite where it's due also, and I will generalize because being of the same species as Thai's and farangs I have the fucking right to generalize as we all do and I would do it wherever I lived.

How many Asian's here do you know who like Thais?

Ask a Filipino or a Chinese person (who isn't filthy rich) what they think of Thai's and you will get the same reluctant answer. They don't like them, and in the case of the former - Thai's treat them like shit and Filipino's and Burmese do not generally get smiled at and are considered below lower class citizens. It's sadly the same with half black half Thai's - (unless you are a minted golf megastar then you will be offered auto-citizenship).. Now THIS is not copying the better aspects of our society and I doubt that complaining about it will make a difference but frustration needs to be vented.

If I hated Thailand I wouldn't be here, I can just see where it's going - and it seems to be down the same shit pipe that our countries went down which is why were here in the first place. There's too much stupidity in the word, it's more fucking ubiqitious than hydrogen and there's far too much of it here - it needs to be dispersed or shaken out of them.

Don't you ever feel like a frustrated step-father to Thailand? I would love to see Thai's setting an example to the rest of Asia and making us proud to be here but it seems that us humans are all following the same road to doom.
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Scamp, my attention span isnt long enough to read the whole post without my thoughts drifting off into hazy daydream about the merits of having a 22 year old girlfriend but I think a seven day turaround for a camera repair is quite good.

Lets face it your're in Thailand drunk on a beach with a Korean made Samsung camera which you value so highly as to not have any protective case on said very expensive camera which is important for your job ect but you are on the beach with it drunk etc etc etc

Scampy got reds for being a cock on a similar subject, this is just his usual dummy spitting reaction when that happens. Redding Scampy is fun, his ego is so over-inflated that even a slight pop at it makes him squeal like a pig being castrated with a spanner. I do have some sympathy for him, though, judging by recently posted pics of him he's changed from a svelte young go-getter to a dumpy middle-aged man with bad dress-sense in slightly less than a year. That can be traumatic even for those with thicker skin.

    Toys out the pram time.
Most of us encounter customer service reps, technicians of some description or even security guards. They look the part but we know that theyre just wearing a badge or uniform and good percentage of them dont have a clue.
Buy a disposable camera or borrow a digi one, go on holiday and have a nice time. Get the camera when you come back.
Waging a one man war against dumb Thai's working in these professions is like pissing in the wind.

So far we have complete inability to contribute to the topic or even read it from beginning to end.

It's valid so it's invalid - therefore shut up or bash Scampy.

It's been that way since 2004.

My aircon compressor died at the weekend. I have to buy a complete new set now at $2200, and it won't be installed until Friday, so we are having to sleep without aircon all this week.

But you don't hear me complaining. Well not until now.

So what are you looking to gain? A street demonstration against the Thai girl that promised you 7 days to repair camera?

Read it from beginning to end and heres how it read

"Hello, Im someone who cant take care of a camera and I need it fixed please."
"Yes OK it will take 7 days"
"Im a foreigner and expect you to do it quicker for an extra 100bt because Im going on holiday"
Pretty much end of conversation then its rant, rant ,rant

    1. No she didn't call back.

    2. I didn't offer extra money to be bumped to the top of the pile.

    3. The lens flap had been dodgy for about a year and had to be assisted by finger, how I got sand in it I don't know, and I was not asked by Samsung and rightly so - it's irrelevant when paying a significant amount for a service that should not take more than three days.

4,5 & 6. Before signing anything yesterday, I explained I would need it back within five days and would it be possible. She said yes, maybe four days.

This thread is yours to steer where you want.

I understand the frustration; had a poor experience over being asked to pay for the repair of some sunglasses that were under guarantee. However, I can't see how the camera experience differs from what I might expect myself in, say, the UK.

The service may not have been what you wanted but that's not something unique to Thailand. Have you got a better example?

^ Why do I sound sexist?

One thing is for certain, had this topic been started by Bexcar County Stud or Dougal or Redneck, we'd have a reasonable debate going now.
