How Much Debt Do You Have?

Once a year or so, I like to find out how much debt other expats have, if they want to divulge.

Debt is common. Many of us have it. Many of us need to borrow for certain things.

Right now (and the for the past several years) my debts have been $0.

    (Excluding renting my apartment.)

How about you? Do you have debts? Do you think your debts are too high? What is the debt for?

*How long will it take to pay your debts off, if ever?

I eliminated my last bit of debt when I sold my last house in Australia. I suppose one option, instead of working for a living, would be to leverage up a bit and get my money working.

Outside of a daily debt of gratitude at still being able to get up in the morning, nary a penny of debt!

Never bought anything (including two houses) I couldn't afford to pay cash for.

Seems debt isn't so common, eh Milk?

I've got some debt. Student loans from the parents and now my current venture. Will take a long damn time to pay off especially at the rate I'm going now. But from what I hear you have to spend it to make it.

Statistically in the West, it is. Even though the question is directed towards fellow expats.

I got some CCards and I usually have a small carry over on them, I think now about less than $2000, and when it is paid off , I usually pay $5or 6 hundred a month, I might go to a furniture store or a MoCy shop and put something on one of the others, When I was young I always paid cash, and saved til I had it, then once it was a bad winter with shit loads of rain and floods and work was just not going on and my wife had got knocked up, that was 1955 and I said no sweat, I don't own anything so I just go to the bank and borrow $500 so we can pay that hospital up front as they require, my credit was no good there, well because I had never had credit or owed any money My credit wasn't worth a fuck, no hospital would let my wife in so my son was born in the county hospital, now that seems to be accepted practise, but when I was young Charity was a nasty dirty fucking thing to even talk about or to accept.
So after I got my private licence AeroShell and Diners Club and Texaco sent me some credit cards, I threw em away, and got to thinking maybe I would need some fuel in my plane some sunday so dug em out and my credit rating started off, now I do use credit at times and my rating is 760 I think. and if you do not run a little on some cards then they will start charging an annual fee, so I got that only once and do use em now,

Tons. Students loans mainly - don't know how much exactly but it's a lot. CCs as well - around $8k. I paid a lot of it off in Korea, and slowly paying it off now.

When I had the biggest debt in my whole life (new mortgage in London), interest rates went up to 15%.

Now I've got money in the bank, they're down below 5%.

Why couldn't it be the other way around?

I presume you had an ARM (adjustable rate mortgage).

Can you get a fixed rate in the UK?
