    Thumbs up Thailand still #1

Wherever I go I miss this fine land, and the wonderful people in it - even though Thailand isn't perfect not the people in it, but if they were they would not be human - and who the fuck am I to criticize a nation for not being perfect? By the rationale that we as a species are the cancer of the planet - they are one of the better examples of life on earth.

I want to share with you some of the charm that I experience on a daily basis from the people of Thailand. I have had a few beers now and am man enough to say how I really feel about this country and these people - none of which bicker with each other on an internet forum and all of which would be united in a foreign country. Any gripe I have had with Thai people has only to do with their defects as human beings and has nothing to do with their nationality. Sure, they ain't perfect, but they are a damned sight better at getting on with life in a harmonious way than us Brits and wezzies.

I don't need to share anything in particular, and I would never be so trite - my love of Thailand does not need to be justified, but every day when I wake up - I am grateful I wake up here.

When ever I've been out of the country and I return to Bangkok, it's not until I'm in the back of a taxi doing a 140 down the hard shoulder with a slightly pissed up driver, that I can breath a sigh of relief and say "I'm home!"

I like living here, I like the people, I love their smiles, their spontaneity. I love them more than my own Tribe.

If you do not like it, I am fine with your choice. But don't hang around here whinging about it- Go Home.

My love of Thailand ended after I had lived in Udon Thani for about six months.
The romantic notion of a tropical paradise faded as soon as I learned how things here really work. It's rather grimy, base and unrefined.

Certainly several notches down from anyplace I've ever lived previously.

But it will do, for now.

That largely sums up my feeling on Thailand as well. It has such an enormous potential, but the whole place seems incapable of moving on.

I have to agree with Texpat. I don't exactly love living here but my family does, so here I stay, for now. I went home to the UK last March but came back early due to home sickness. Next time I'll take the family.

They neglect things that shouldn't be neglected. As long as everyone seems to be in harmony, nothing else in life matters, right?

Thailand is great as long as you dont start to copy your life from your home country. Keep life simple
I think I enjoyed Thailand much more when I had no worrys ie cars/motorcycles/homes/Family and all the other small shit that gives you problems every day internet/UBC/ No beer at 7/11 until 6 Oclock
As we all know Thailand is foked for tring to get anything done the way you want it. I went in today to buy my daughter a TV abd DVD for her room so I picked out a nice pink DVD with puppys on it and do you think the dumb barsted serving me would just except that thats the one I wanted to buy, NO the foker tried everything to get me to buy some other crap that he thought was better. I had to walk of in the end and leave the wife to deal with him.
I have had enough of dealing with retards in Thailand that think they know whats better for you or how you should be doing things

Wheres me mate Smeg he will back me up

Easily sorted though. You just pick one up and walk to the till, or tell him to shut the fuck up and go and get one from the store-room if there aren't any near the display.

^I'm sure this has been asked before but...Why do all the hypermarkets feel the need to hire a hundred sales personnel per dept.? Doesn't that hurt the bottom line just a bit? Or are they all working on commission (which would actually explain a lot).

Yeah Rigger, that guy wouldn't make a commission on the one you wanted. He wants you to buy his brand -- where he'll make a few baht.

The trick is to decide which one you want (Sony for example) and then ask for the Sony rep. He'll jump through his asshole to get you the Hello Kitty DVD.

I've asked for a brand before where the rep swore they were sold out and it's shit anyway. Then the brand rep came by and fetched one for me straight away.

Just absolutely bizarre. The customer is not king. Not even bishop or rook.

I wouldn't mind being 100% retired in Thailand once I check-out of life, but it is no country for young men.

If you haven't 'paid your dues' in the real world, best to delay going there.

I quite liked it when I used to be a sex tourist. Now that avenue of pleasure is closed off to me, its just a big third world dump that smells of icky-poo, not jasmine and incense.

Still better than the Philippines though.....
