    What contraptions have you built?

Just wondering what kinds of strange or useful contraptions people may have built. I remember growing up and tinkering around creating all sorts of stuff like go carts, treehouses, trailers for bicycles, etc. We used to make bombs out of firecrackers and my brother once made a bazooka for his high school science class. Here in Thailand I haven't made anything because I don't have a work space or tools. I have been think of trying to turn one of those broken mosquito zapping mini tennis rackets into a taser. I took off the top part and kept the bottom part with the electrical stuff. I kind of think it can be done. Maybe someone here has already made one.

One afternoon my mate Harry the Lips was around at my apartment. Harry was one of many Harry's we were friends with but this one was named after his huge lips. He was like a fat Geordie version of Pob (for you Brits).

We had been around at a mates house in the morning and he had just bust the house bong the night before and was rather upset by it.

Harry and I decided that since he was such a good friend that we should create him an uber-bong for the house.

Harry and I popped down B&Q to get some parts. I had originall planned on using that 2in drainpip but on arriving at B&Q I discovered they had perfect big drainpiping - 8in I think.

I picked up a U bend bit that had a flat bottom so it could stay on the floor ( like a alps horn of sorts) 2m of piping. an end cap. a length of metal tubing, sealant. an end cap that went down to a 2in pip. gaffer tape and some pipe glue.

We built it up at home. ended up looking just like one of those long french alp horn things with a pip sticking up about a foot into from the end for the chillum.

2m was too much for the main chamber so I cut it down to a meter and half.

Chucked it in the back of the car and took it up for a test run.

It was too big. Couldn't get any pressure in it to draw the smoke through.

Off to B&Q to pickup pump. a bit of a redraw of the plans and fitted the pump. Think it was a fish pump or a garden pond one.

Worked very well. Had to shorten the main chamber though it burnt far too much to make it economical to run. Shortened the main chamber to about 3/4m.

Still somewhere in Newcastle. As far as I know it got passed onto my mates brothers when they went to uni.

i just built my own sawmill.
the nearest commercially available one costs almost exactly ten times as much as i spent, and mine handles twice the capacity, plus is much simpler in design.
past projects include two boats, two ac cobra sportscars, dozens of chopped motorbikes, my own swimming pool, my own house, a tipper trailer for a tractor, my own design charging system for my ducati, which used to blow regulators annually, a pipe bending machine, a frame building jig for choppers, and many more.
on the cards is an external combustion motor to run my pumps for the fishtanks, a wood-gas generator to supply the gas to make it run, heating my water at the same time.
there is so much shit in my head that i still have to build that i just know i will croak before i get bored!
