    Have You Ever Shoplifted?

Some kids when I was younger would steal stuff from small convenient stores and larger supermarkets. Often, these items were of little value, like a pack of cigarrettes. One guy in high school used to walk into our local mini-mart near the school bus stop, and walk back to the coolers with 40 oz. bottles of "Mickey" Beer and put a bottle in his book bag.

I never stole from stores. Never thought of it, and I would probably get very nervous.

So, how about you? Did you ever shoplift things from stores when you were younger?

If so, what did you take? Did you ever get caught?

Nope. Like you it would never have occurred to me when I was a child& when I was a teenager I didn't hang around with the kids who used to do it.

I stole from a bar once but it was all down to peer pressure was only about 17 at the time working in Doncaster, and the bar we used to drink in was undergoing a refit and the old bloke taking care of it would keep vanishing out the back and every time he did this we would all lean over (about 5 of us) and top our glasses up, now we actually got away with this for over an hour but we pushed our luck one to many times and it only being a makeshift bar it collapsed, now we were never actually caught or even accused of stealing beer but we were all asked to leave the place, funny as fcuk it was.

Obviously looking back i am now totaly ashamed of myself!!!

Am I going to be the only one who put a vote in? Where's AlexDeLarge?

I used to enjoy thieving from my primary school. I remember nicking some spray cans with a mate which we stashed outside of the boys toilets on the windowsill knowing a quick discovery of the theft would leave to the inevitable bag search. I sprayed 'Dog Deever' (a gang member character from the 2000AD comics) onto the wall of the local library with them.

I stole a curly haired tarantula from a shop once.

Wanted to vote "yes and no" but didn't have the option, so went for "yes". I've never taken anything without paying as a customer, but I once had a Saturday job in the Co-op and used to help myself to a slice of gala pie, some nice cheese or the odd packet of Hula Hoops if I was peckish.

So did everyone else, including the manager, so it would have been a bit weird if I'd insisted on paying.

Yes, I used to punish large stores for their greed by stealing CD's, cheese, batteries and toothpaste. I was a Robin Hood of the 90's.

I would never do it for anyone else, I would never do it from a small store and I would never steal anybodys personal belongings and I condone the chopping off of hands for burglars that prey on personal possesions.

Don't start giving me crap about shoplifters are the cause of rising prices in supermarkets and that if everybody did it the world would collapse etc... I don't buy any of that bullshit - we live in a dog eat dog world and I never had any qualms about swiping a mass produced and unmissed product from a corporate giant such as HMV or Waitrose. What I do have a problem with is thieves who cause personal distress to individuals, and by that rationale I wouldn't nick a newspaper.

I never got caught, but I was once 'discovered' and as a result I was offered a job as a store detective in South London. I would do a different shop every day and it was not the job for me but it was a great experience. I loved working with the security guards in places like Peckham and Wimbledon and I'll do a thread on it someday.

Fifteen quid was a lot of money for a Cd in those days and still is, so I just took it and held it in my armpit with the weight of my arm... Fuck them, and Tower Records Picadilly - fuck them too.

If you think I am bad then perhaps instead of downloading the next song you want you can send somebody some money back home and they can go to HMV and send it over to you.

I was an honest store detective but not very good, it wasn't an easy job.

In the office they used to call me 'store defective'.

Ummm, yes. I had my description sent out to all the stores in Milton Keynes Shopping Centre when I was 10 for nicking a packet of dart flights. My aunt was working in a store there and my uncle came home early to give me a bollocking.

Oh, and I was pissed up in Villa so I had a packet of Port Cheddar. That a was bloody stupid thing to do.

Scamp you do write a load of moralistic crap. You robbed from shops for the same reason everyone else did, coz you wanted something but didn't want to pay for it.

Yes, just a tad - that said I did once take a pair of sunglasses from a gas stop mart en route to Rayong and in Samui a couple of years back I stole a long sleeve Abercrombie & Fitch T-Shirt because the shop was unattended.

I returned the next day to pay for it because I felt guilty and they had the nerve to charge me 700 baht! If I'd known it was that much I would not have driven all the way back to the shop to pay for it.

When I was a young teenager I went through a phase of shoplifting, with a mate. Got caught once too, but the kindly guy let me walk with a warning. That was the end of it for me.

Yes, I was just justifying it to any Daily Mail readers out there.

I bet if I went to JJ and stole you a sunfish or an electric eel you wouldn't complain, you'd be creaming your pants.

Jesus Christ on a crutch, Do you suppose that is the reason that I went out at nights and siphoned all that gasoline when it was only 20 cents a gallon and burned it in my Model A Ford?? Damned if I didn't think it was because they didn't have a coin box on the side of the truck.

Used to have mates working in a local supermarket that was on the take. They didn't run anything properly through the tills avoided tax and were generally a pretty bad place to work.

We used to go in and buy a few bits and pieces and recieve bottles of whiskey and 600 ciggies as free gifts.

In the end the manager got pissed off with the place and robbed the safe the owner came back and fired everybody other than my mates because he thought they were good.

The night the manager robbed the safe he told my mates to take what they wanted from the booze and ciggies as it would be the last night it would happen.

Going to the 24 hour garage back home with a bunch of mates early in the morning.

We'd always stuff a porno mag up our jackets before leaving - I remember if you didn't get a International Club or Mayfair you ended up with some readers wives dirt.

I walked back from TOPS the other day, and when I got to my soi realised I still had the shopping basket with me. I'd paid for the items though, they was bagged up in the basket. Does that count?

If you were to look at a graph of the profits of companies like Woolworths, Halfords and WH Smiths for the years when I was between the ages of 12 to 15 you would probably see a noticable crater in their performance for those years. My mates were a lot worse than me though.
Not pinched anything for years and years, I think it was just an addiction / craze for a while, like BMX bikes or skateboards were.
