Get back to grass roots level and forget about land deals etc etc .
I have a few good Thai friends and we have talked about the "Why do Thais not like us " problem .
It is basic jealousy!
It seems to me that it is because we ( as foreigners) can retire from work - come to Thailand- receive probably more than 5 times the average monthly Thai salary from pension funds , national or company, and generally have a good time.
They , on the other hand, have to work until they drop as there is no national pension scheme and they are pissed off about it !
^ hey that might make a good thread?
Bit more serious I'm afraid.Originally Posted by DrB0b

I have even expressed this very same view to them as a question and more often them not only receive a wry smile as their response. I am not creating stories or trying to damn a race of people but facts are facts.
I also agree that what went down in Indonesia a few years ago and I refer to the mob killing of ethnic Chinese, the burning of their houses and raping of their woman was totally sickening.
When asked about why the Thais, or in fact the Thai Systemis seems to throw up all barriers when a farang person or company wished to invest in this country (by potential investors in this country) I can only answer them in this fashion and as you term I have no principles.
Finally, who do you think built the majority of the efficient infrastructure in this country? If it wasn't for the English, Australians, Germans, Americans, French etc this country would still be at the same development level as Loas and Cambodia.
All built and developed with Foreign money and Knowhow and for everyone to enjoy.
Again the Thais love us (and they should) but don't protray this love by way of the laws that don't allow us the basic priveleges and which I feel we deserve.
By the way, another multi-national Company pulling their expansion investment of over 3 Billion Baht out of Thailand and moving it to Malaysia of all places.
Reason given: Unfair law ammenmets regarding Corporate foreign Ownership.
Sorry for all of the Thai familes as many jobs will be lost and basic quality of life for this people will worsen.
Perfect example about shooting yourself in the foot.
We should be grateful that farangs can't invest here openly, or Thailand would be like a giant Singapore now and we would all be priced out from the place, and not enjoying cheap pussy, beers and food
so stop complaining, and thanks the Thais for being so fucked up, they are giving us a big break at the end,
Have you ever been involved with the Thai Chinese and at a family or business level? They may stand up and vigorously pledge Chai Yo, Chai Yo, Chai Yo (3 cheers in Thai) and for the Thai flag but when it comes down to it they are Chinese and uphold Chinese family and business priciples and certainly not true Thai Culture!
When I first come here over 20 years ago I was invited to a dinner by a Thai Chinese business associate. I duly invited the girl I was seeing at the time (a very pretty Thai Lady) and we arrived at the party. After about half an hour and after we arrived he pulled me asside with the following advice;
1. If you want to make it in this country only do business with the Chinese
2. If you want to gain respect from the real business community do not be seen with a girl and as per the one that accompanied me to the dinner. Too dark and too Thai!
3. If I wanted to impress people he could arrange a suitable Chinese Thai girlfriend and so as accompany me to the next important function.
He also explained to me if you want to see these people treat them as Mia Nois and they only should be used for sexual gratification. After all he had a few Mia Nois on the side but he still retained his social standing as he had a fair skin Chinese Thai wife.
Yes, on paper they are Thai Nationals, but Thai in my opinion they are (through their own choice) certainly not.
I am glad to say that I never followed any of his advise and am happily married to a golden skin Thai lady.
You may be also surprised that most of the Chinese come here in the early 1950s and to escape the Mao Sa Tung crackdown. Most of the Chinese here are either of Doewcho or Hokien ancestry. Most of them only speak Chinese at home and certainly the children can only speak Chinese and before they go to School.
Second generation mostly so the majority of them have not been around here for that long. I also agree it is wonderful to maintain your ancestry and teach your kids about where their roots are from but these so called Thais teach their children how to be Chinese.
Finally do you know that one of the richest men in Thailand, head of local and multinational companies speaks Chinese exclusively. He very rarely speaks Thai and my partner had to learn his dialect of Chinese just to do business with him. Would you consider he rates himself as being as a true Thai!
My wife (Thai, Chang Kong), says she doesn't like you.
"No good heart, No good man."
That's after a couple of hours ploughing through your postings.
If a farang asks a Chinese-Thai person what he is, he will say Thai.
If a Thai asks a Chinese-Thai person what he is, he will say Chinese-Thai.
If a Chinese-Thai person asks another Chinese-Thai person what he is, he will say Chinese.
Told to me my by a Chinese-Thai bloke I knew.

^^ Different from how it seems to happen though. Chinese Thai will often introduce themselves as such to farangs.
Farangs with a Chinese Thai girlfriend will tell you the background of her ancestors before you get the girl's name.
Whooooooo. I detect a smidgen of "Holier than thou"
Did you start your post on a roller coaster ride?
I've got quite a few first generation Chinese Thais (parents are Chinese who became Thais) in our company and when I ask them what they feel they are?
Thais.
But Chinese who have been Thais for a few generations, I've got a few also, when I ask them the same question?
Chinese....Thais
Go figure...
Discussion is an exchange of knowledge, argument is an exchange of ignorance
What a lucky girl she is to have such a multi-talented man as you around the house!
Tell her no problems and she must be truly well trained and instructed to join the "I hate Loy Toy fan Club because hes a cnut!" What the hell is she going to to you. That you are the real cnut?
By the way a couple of hours spent on me! What a complement
By the way, still interested in the job in my lube Shop!!!!
so, butterfly is belgian after all.
Ok. I've tried to work my way through the garbled shite and there's just a couple of points to make.
1. She knew nothing about you and I went out of my way to remain objective.
2. We spent a lot of time working out just what you were saying. You tend to be more than a little obtuse.
3. Honestly, I did not influence her, Lord alone knows I wish that I could.
4. All joking apart that is a serious assessment of what you've said here so far by a completely unbiased Thai.
Maybe it means nothing but I think it's relevent.
pip pip
you may well be, you should know
seriously though, exactly what is a "Thai"? I can ask the same question back home as in "what exactly is a UK citizen?"
there is no easy answer, that is why you get such a gamut of replies
Are the Cambodian and Laos immigrants who have Thai ID and nationality really Thai? Are the Thais who come from Chiang Mai, which was Laos, really Thai?
etc etc
it does not just apply to Chinese, Thais also have many different cultural differences within that community
I have reported your post
Fundamentally LT has got a major bug in his overworked ass that requires serious expulsion. He's incapable of just spitting/shitting it out so he waffles on in his inimitable way with perverse intimation and allegation. Verbal flattulence to no effect.
So, he's got a problem with the Chinese Thai?
He's got problems every which way.
Sad little man....... sad
I am sure you studied very diligently all of my points???
Have problems with Chinese Thais! Not on your life for me personally but about 65 million Thais do and although they don't know it.
The simple fact is I get asked almost every day by either serious business people or plane farang who are interested to come here and like the rest of us enjoy this part of the world and more impotantly to contribute something. They also concerned about the bad press and even warning from some of the embassy's that Thailand is not a farang friendly place at the moment.
You should know that what is put over by the press is not always exactly true (more sensational) and that generally Thai's are very welcoming to us.
What I am saying that the general rules here are run by about 56 families (havn't you ever heard about the class of 56) and those are the old foggies that the ex-priminister referred to at a meeting I attended in Band Saray about 3 years ago.
During a private meeting (with a group of us) he suggested the laws regarding foreign ownership may change when and after a few of these old foggies had left the scene. I can assure you that no members of this very elite group are ethnic Thai!
All of us farangs who have chosen to mahe Thailand their home have problems here and regarding my problems I am finding it very difficult to provide jobs for my many Thai employees because of biased rules targeting farangs. Send em back to oblivion I expect you would suggest, fcuk em!
You, Mr. Self Righteous crack on with your own selfish life and let me get on with mine and I would suggest you to contribute something here rather than your waffle and appathy.
I started this thread to find out what most farang people thought about what is thrown in their faces everyday, not those who stick their heads in the rice paddy and are willing to let anyone fcuk them from behind.
