The catch 22 with good Thai folk

I rang my chauffeur, Kob, this morning and he turned up without his orange vest in a matter of seconds on a nice new Honda Wave, a black one.

Anyway, Kob is one of those rare decent Thai's who is well versed in English (especially for a moto taxi driver) and is loyal and won't rip you off.

I choose him for this reason and also because he will take me to Tesco Lotus and back for 50 baht and he will wait for me/join me - whatever.

The other moto taxi's charge 30 baht each way, but here's the thing...

BECAUSE Kob is decent and loyal and cheap, I tip him anyway so I end up paying more than I would if I was using a regular moto taxi so what's the fucking point?

Thailand has so many lazy, crappy people out to rip you off that when you meet one that is good you feel inclined to tip them for giving you something out of the goodness of their heart!

Either way they win, the scheeming little wogs.
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

I forgot to mention that Kob also has a perfectly spherical head.

remember when you address your chauffeur to say 'Khun Kob Kap'

    courtesy costs nothing.

Congratulations on your nearly 5,000 posts.

    But it has been noted.

Thais don't like being addressed by personal pronouns

......"My name is not 'YOU', my name 'Pigpongporn'."

    They wanna hear their name.

Good for you for finding a decent motobike taxi. And good for him for not being a greedy bastard. My locals increased their fare when I started using them regularly. Now I walk to another soi.

    I really don't understand.

A motorbike taxi is charging you cheaper for a 2 way return fare that two single journeys that cover the same distance?

    Is that the point?

You do realise when you book return flight from, a destination, that if you booked a one way there and then a one way back it would be more expensive too?

Normal moto is 60 Thb rtn, and he doesn't actually ask for anything. I know he would do it for 50 rtn but I just give him 70 or 80.

What's with the dayglo green text mate? ...And what's with the 3 posts when you only needed one, you're as bad as Nooners.

So it could well be said that this motorbike taxi is not more honest, but he knows if he panders to the big white man's attention he will be graciously tipped my master and receive an extra 20 baht over his friends.

I do believe you have been outsmarted.

I'm just wary of you in general because you're shifty, and if we are going to meet up for lunch at the stall with the blue plastic chairs then I better get going.

    See you soon.

I got one racist cnut with politcal slogans on his jacket and bike who would charge me 30B instead of 20B unlike the other 6 lads I get on with. It's out of principle I told him he was a racist prick and was wrong.

All the other guys now enjoy the occasional tip and a few beers if I get home the same time they finish.

^^ You want some beef steak again at that place again? Blake went more hardcore and had the raw beef.

Which I found goes well with a crispy oyster omelette.
