    Unhappy Soggy laptop.

Haven't been able to log on for a couple of days, due to work & my prepaid internet card running out, but yesterday, we had a big rainstorm while I was out shopping/collecting littl'un from school. Sadly, the windows were open & by the time I got back my computer desk & laptop were in a pool of water.

Laptop is now behaving rather erratically. It keeps saying it's on battery when it's plugged in & then going off (due to 'low battery'). I hit keys & it ignores the fact they've been hit. Anything I can do at home, or does it need to go to the repair shop? Bear in mind I'm a tech-idiot. Thanks.

You have had some bad luck with computers haven't you?

Have you ever thought to buy a manual typewriter?

Leave it out in the sun, maybe some little ants will go in and fix everything. Hairdryers about the only DIY thing to try

I'm pretty sure if you turn it on while it's still well you're knackered.

    I might be wrong.

Put it in the microwave for ten minutes, NR - see what happens.

turning it on before it was dry was the problem.

it might still be ok if you leave it off and let it dry - as long as the water was just fresh water it should leave no conductive residue when it is dried

Good suggestions with the ants and the microwave but if by any chance they don't work then get one of these military grade beaut's.

You can drop it in the bath, let your roof cave in on it and it still won't give up.

But don't type the password in wrong 5 times or it will explode

Soggy laptop is the same as soggy biscuit.

many's the time i've stickied up my keyboard whilst websurfing and enjoying www.teakdoor.com

A toothbrush and some brasso does the trick.

If it's only the keyboard, plug in a desktop keyboard (cheap) until the lappie's one dries out. Worked for me and I spilled wine on mine when KW said he was marrying someone else for the 20th time.

    Let it dry out.

Then take it to an electrical repair shop and ask them to look at it.

Thais are great at that stuf

if you take what the " amateur electronics tech " says with a grain of salt it may rust.

if it was claen fresh water it will be ok if it just allowed to dry with out having power - pop the battery out also

    Yeah,

One got stolen & one got rained on. Neither would have happened to a manual typewriter.

    Snap!

I read you post looking on the shelf with the dismembered laptop c/w destroyed keyboard (removed) and exit fan (modified), caused by addition of red wine, in turn caused (no doubt) by some KW pap. The unit still operates only by external keyboard and Heath-Robinson airflow device...

    Bugger, bugger, bugger!

Hate to admit it, but am typing this in an internet cafe (but a nice one with a tasty cappucino & a lovely smell of baking, not one of DJ Pat's ones) because the bloody thing's gone tits up. It'll come on, go as far as displaying my screensaver, but no icons & go no further.

I think a trip to the repair shop is needed. Bugger!
