What are you paying for petrol (gasoline) where you are?

Earlier this week the price of petrol hit AU$1.55 per litre here in Brisbane , a huge increase since December last year when it was under a doller a litre. They say that because of the strength of the Aussie $ we are getting off very lightly.

As this forum has members from all over the world, could you please give us an idea of what you are paying in your country and how much it has increased over the last 6 months.

It's hit $1.62 a litre here in Adelaide, they are forecasting $2 a litre before the end of the year.

Aussies 'get off lightly' on fuel costs

    15:00 AEST Thu May 29 2008
    1 hour 23 minutes ago

    By Jay Savage, ninemsn

Australians complaining about petrol costs should consider themselves lucky prices aren't higher, economists say.
The nation's fuel costs are much lower than in many other developed countries, thanks to low petrol taxes and the soaring value of the Australian dollar.
"We've had a pretty good run," Savanth Sebastian, equities economist at CommSec, told ninemsn.
"We should consider ourselves lucky with the strength of our dollar. There are not too many currencies around the world that have had such an appreciation in value."
Motorists filling up today could have been paying about $1.90 per litre if the Australian dollar had remained at 78 US cents — the mark it held in August last year.
The dollar, now valued at over 96 cents, would probably rise further, softening the blow to motorists' bank accounts, Mr Sebastian said.
ANZ economist Riki Polygenis said Australia's comparatively low petrol excise had also helped offset the skyrocketing value of oil.
Higher tax rates in many European nations, for example, meant people were forking out far more than motorists here.
"Australian consumers and businesses are just going to have to adapt," Ms Polygenis said. "It's unlikely to get any easier."
Motorist Stuart Packham, 22, was used to paying over a pound ($2.06) per litre as a student in his native England.
When he moved to Australia earlier this year, he found his petrol bills nearly halved.
"I seem to have a unique perspective compared to many people here because I'm OK with it [the price]," he said.
Mr Sebastian said oil companies, fearful of consumer backlash, were also absorbing some of the rise in crude oil prices.
But these companies could not sacrifice their profits forever and the costs would inevitably be passed on to consumers.

This could be an interesting thread - how about everyone converting to a common currency so someone ( me perhaps ) can do a league table ?

I don't know what I pay per liter.

I just put in $1.25 USD worth and it lasts for about 3 days.

So, in one week, I pay about $4 USD per week.
