has it all been done already?

i don't remember who it was that once said "everything that can be invented has already been invented" or something to that effect and it was a long time ago so he was wrong and maybe i am wrong but every time i sit down at the computer with a thread about thailand in my head i end up giving it a miss because i figure somebody did it already and probably better than i would and since i am not living in thailand at the moment there is nothing new for me about thailand that i have not already bored you all with so now i just caught myself in the issues forum trying to get up raycarey's nose again because i am getting bored and i like getting up his nose and this is a thai forum so why does it seem that it has all been done already and it seems like the forum is becoming a giant cookery book when i look at the new posts when i open the forum not that there is anything wrong with giant cookery books but we used to have great threads from posters complaining about the thais and then responses from those that do not complain about the thais and now we have members with thousands of posts but no threads coz they don't have any/ any more original ideas and so they just post replies to other people's threads and it frightens me that i think i am becoming one of those people when i had promised myself that i would not and that's why i find myself trolling the issues forum coz at least i am guaranteed a few squeals from raycarey but it is not satisfying because it is all too easy and boring.
(there, i used a fullstop!..... and a comma, and an exclamation mark and ....oh, fuck, i think i am losing it!)
there have been a number of members leaving the forum lately, -really good, interesting posters- many of them, plus hoardes of new members joining after exiting the "nursery school forum" in search of greener (less restricted) pastures, but the number of new, interesting threads seems to have been declining, where they should be on the increase given the large number of new sign-ups.
i think that at least a few of the "resignations" we have seen recently have been decisions made for "entertainment value versus time spent" reasons, in spite of lame excuses to the contrary. chinthee was one, who exited because he felt he was becoming addicted to the forum and i think he just did the calculation: does the time i take off my work and my family justify the addiction?
thinking back to about a year ago, i think his answer would have been: "teakdoor is worth it because it is a great escape from boredom and i can justify the addiction"
there are a good few "bankers" on the forum, still posting good shit with great entertainment value, but for the rest of us, and i know i am one, i think we have been letting our fellow members down.
so how about it guys lets all get on with trying to increase our threads to replies ratio and keep this great forum going as i am sure there are still some really great threads out there just waiting to be posted and i will try my best too in spite of my being really busy of late but the forum cant afford to lose any more great members and there are some very large shoes that need to be filled and i am sick of the fukkn issues forum already coz the only people i get any entertainment value from over there is raycarey and stroller and then only when i manage to piss them off and that is too easy and now i am going to open another bottle of rum and wait for you buggers to start a thread that will get me out of the issues "jail" good night

Of course it ain't all been done already, and several threads are basically repeated periodically tsicar (such as whinging about Thai).

Forums seem to follow a rythm of their own- sometimes quieter, then frenetic again. Td's been a bit quiter the last few days- it's happened before. Doesn't mean it will be tomorrow.

Hey, how about a Sth African thread.

    Stop.

Go to bed. Sleep. Get rest.

    Then get up.

    Re-post this.

    Thank you.

Spot on, Tsicar. After absorbing your rambling o.p., it made quite a bit of sense. A problem with this forum is that some of its most clever members simply wait for someone to stick his neck out with a creative or outrageous idea and then mercilessly slam him with all of the brilliant sarcasm that they can muster. This has a chilling effect on creativity here. I recall once making a post comparing the women of various Asian countries (silly me, I thought a place called 'TD Lounge' might be the place for light-hearted banter). A very bright member of this forum went off on me and my tongue-in-cheek musings with a quite mean-spirited response devoid of any content. Another time (TD Lounge again), I started a thread simply asking why Thais don't understand sarcasm and got a nasty 'how dare you' reply from another self-appointed intellectual monitor. I wasn't terribly offended, but I just wish that some of these talented people would express ideas from the outer boundaries of their own minds instead of merely playing the role of thought police.
