    Clever farang

On the way back from dropping the kids off, as is my want, I called in the market for some fruity things.
I try to buy things at different stalls, the women ask, "why do you buy apples from me and oranges from another ?"
I tell them that her oranges aren't much good, I think this keeps them on their toes as they believe I am a fruit connoisseur.
Anyway to get on with the real story, the orange lady had a sign up 33 Bt for a kilo and 100 Bt for 3 kilo.
    So I told her a wanted 3 x 1 Kg bags.
She said "Ooohhh Farang very clever, most people buy 3k for 100 Bt because they think it is cheaper."

Anyway I thought it was funny.

Yep, clever lot the Isaan shoppers. They know a deal when they see one.

Went to MK last night had the busboy take my tickets and money. He tells me "645 Baht" (I really hate MK BTW, but that's another thread) Now I'm really impressed this guy added up all them items in 'is itty bitty 'ead, but I'm not so sure of the accuracy, no problem I'll get a itemized receipt and change we can go over it then... Waitress brings my ticket and change for a 1000 baht note, 546 total. Now THATS dyslexia

I been buying Isaarn beer which used to 30 Bt a bottle, last week it went up to 35 Bt.
I thought my local drinking shop was taking the piss but I checked and its 35 Bt every drinking shop.
Last night I went to get 3 bottles to take home, on the bottle was 33 Bt, so I thought thats sensible, 100 Bt for 3 bottles and tell her keep the change.
So I gave her 100 Bt, she said 105 Bt.
Wot? I says, its got 33 Bt on the bottle.
She said yes one bottle 33 Bt if you want three its 105 Bt.

It's the same in the supermarket.

If you go for the large pack, it often costs more than the equivalent in small ones.

I went to buy eggs yesterday. I wanted four.

    "Mai dai"

Why? Because it's three eggs for ten baht and she couldn't figure out how much to charge for four. And, no thanks, I didn't want six.

    I took 3 for 10....

Another thing, I am used to staff getting out the calculator to compute the price of ten items of the same kind from the UK, but for a single item...Thailand is 'special'.

    For Scampy:-

    3 Kg = 100 Bt

    1 Kg = 33 Bt............3 x 1 Kg = 99 Bt.

No, I think you need to really spell it out for him, SB.

99bt is less than 100bt, so buying 3 separate kilos is cheaper than buying the 'bargain' 3 kilos by 1bt.

And, just to make it absolutely clear to Scampy, 1bt is what you get when you subtract 99bt from 100bt
