Found a baby cat on my door steps

The mother came last night on my door steps and left one of her babies,

The security guards thought it would be funny to feed the cat to the Soi dogs of the Mooban,

I hate those Soi dogs (I try to run over them but always miss), and the way they were looking at that poor baby cat, I knew they were going to dog play with it and kill it in a matter of hours,

So I took the poor thing, it's no more than 2 weeks old, but I don't know what to do with it eventually,

Try and get goats or sheeps milk for it, cows milk is not that good for it. You've got to literally raise it for at least the next three weeks until it can stand up on its own.

    Best of luck.

I am giving it regular milk, not sure if I should buy cat food as it could get sick,

apparently locals feed them with rice, and I don't want it to get used to good food as I will need to kick it out eventually when it's old enough,

Those soi dogs are nasty, will kill and eat anything, I had to kick one in the head before it grabbed the cat,

Good move taking in the cat, BF.

When it's big enough to take care of itself it won't need you anymore & will do it's own thing, though it might pop round for some dinner now & again.

Don't feed it rice, it's bad for it's digestive system.

Give it cat food, it'll adapt when it needs to, cats are easily adaptable.

    Bangkok, too far

should I be worried with possible disease or hygiene ? what would you recommend I do to take care of it for the next few months ? any special diet ? I have no idea where to start. For now it is in a big cardboard for shelter with milk and a piece of cloth for sleeping,

It will be hard work but will bring it's own rewards. Baby bottle and make sure that it is well clean. Agree that Cows milk does not have everything that a kitten needs. Baby milk is good, I think, but expensive and keep it warm. Well done and good luck.

Goat milk. Not sheep milk. Or you can buy powdered formula from the vets/pet shop. Don't give it normal (cows') milk. Its digestive system can't cope.

Where are you, Butterfly? If it's really that young it needs intensive nursing - feeding every couple of hours, keeping warm with a lamp, stimulating to go to the toilet - everything the mother would do. If you're in BKK, I'd contact SCAD for help. Not easy to raise a kitten that young successfully. Are its eyes open? Is it walking? Does it have teeth?

I am in Bangkok, I was afraid someone was going to say that. It seems like a lot of work, baby cat seems tired and weak, not even sure it will last that long. Where can I find that SCAD thing ? maybe the best solution

yes open and it's walking, not sure about teeth. Will give it water now. What about cat food ? not too young ? I would think it is, less than 3 weeks old I would guess, really small

    OK.

Try canned cat food. It will either eat it or not. If it's old enough, it will. Good news is that eyes open & walking means it's older than 2 weeks. You can check if it has teeth (& if its still relying on milk) by putting your finger in its mouth. If it latches on, sucks strongly & you can't feel teeth, it's too young for solids. If you can feel teeth, try offering canned cat food.

I'll pm you some contacts for SCAD (Soi Cat & Dog Bangkok). They may be able to help with advice; they're not a shelter, so they may not actually take it, but I'm sure they'll help you out.

Just raise it until it's old enough to fight/hunt & you've done everything you can, BF.

Goats milk (UHT) you might be able to find in reasonable supermarkets. Other than that, vets & pet shops stock it. Supermarkets also stock puppy & kitten formula (powdered) in their pet food areas. It needs to be fed to very young animals with a baby bottle.

Do you know how difficult that is?

I don't mean to put you off BF & if you do it, that's fantastic, really , but many orphaned young animals get sick & sadly die.

If its about 6 weeks old (look at fang teeth) then take it to the vets..I know a good one in Saphan Kwai where Khun Eric goes. Get its injections done, leave it a week there. Costs about 1500b. Cats..best animals you can have BF

Those pouches of food are better than cans as they are covered in jelly/gravy & better for a kitten.

Don't Tesco sell all the stuff you need?

They do in every other country.

You`ll be rewarded in heaven for this BF, and when youve raised the little un, it will be able to fend off those soi dogs.

Inviting a hungry Stroller round might clear the soi dog problem.

Perhaps a pic of the kitten will help identify it's age, then you can get some more accurate advice about caring for it.

Well done for taking the cat in BF.
