    Question One Way Concern

A friend and I today booked one way tickets to Shenzen to attend a friends wedding and keep a promise. I did not get a return as we are going overland to Hangzhou (which would have been triple cost to fly to) and the plan is to get a one way ticket back to Bangkok from Hangzhou once the wedding is over.

Even if I'd got a return I'd still be re-entering Thailand on a single ticket.

Australians tell me they have entered Thailand one way from Oz with no problems yet the British say you can not do this from Britain.

What is the case from China? ...Will I need to get a HZ-BKK-HZ return to get back here or can I come back on a one way? Should I go to the Thai embassy in Shanghai and get a 90 day visa (if that's possible?).

I also hear it is much harder to get a China visa now - something to do with Tibet, but apparently travel agents can get it for you for 200 baht so I hope this is the case.

    Cheers,

    Scampy

    Regarding the China visa -

The China visa is much more difficult to obtain now here in Thailand with the up coming Olympics and security concerns.

You now need to show return flight tickets and also hotel reservations and the price is around 2500Baht for a 30 day visa.

Best to check with the Chinese embassy in Bangkok.

Depends on the Thai visa you have in your passport. If you have a valid non immigrant visa, it's OK. If you have no visa or a tourist visa, you need the return ticket. That's always been my experience.

NR, what do they do? Refuse you entry? What if you are traveling through by land? If they refuse you entry, are you like Tom hanks in the movie the Terminal? Not many places to eat worth anything at the new airport. That would suck......

I have flown in on a one way ticket with EVA air. It has been a few years ago though.

I have flown in on a one way ticket several times with an aussie passport - no worries.

If you are worried then buy an internet flight to singapore for 3 months away and then cancel it and get a refund after you get back in. Although cancelling might cost you a few hundred baht so I wouldn't bother.

having no return ticket on a tourist visa is a bit foolish these days,

Don't worry Scamp. I've just phoned the Chinese consul here in CM and told them you're a member of the Free Tibet Campaign and are going to China to disrupt the olympics. They've agreed to give you a special welcome when you arrive and will provide accommodation for you. You won't need a return ticket for a few years yet!

I have flown in several times on single fares with tiger or airasia. I do have an onward ticket but they have no way of knowing that and they have never asked. I didn't even know it was a requirement.

^ under what criteria would you apply for a non imm B? do you have the paperwork to support your application?
Best thing to do is get yourself an eticket/reservation. I can put you in touch with my tame travel agent who will issue for you without any cash up front. just cancel it shortly afterwards - there should be no fee.

Essentially though you need to sort your visa situation out properly scampy.....

The eticket reservation I have to do just before I go to China as there is only three days to pay it I think. I was just looking into that, and if your agent could help then that's great, have a green.

...And yes, I do need to sort out my visa situation and I think language school is probably the way to go.

I was stopped at Auckland airport once and told I couldn't get on the plane because I didn't have an onward ticket and Thai immigration wouldn't let me in. I showed them my previous entry stamps and said "Hey I've done it before".

    They let me on.

I just saw two dogs having sex back to back which was very odd, I'm not sure it's thread-worthy though.

Here comes the lightning, better sign out.

The airlines will refuse to let you board the plane. It nearly happened to me once at Heathrow.

    Yes, this is the rule.
I explained it on various other threads already, including one of Scampy's frequent "I don't have a visa but a one way ticket" threads.

People will remember once it happens to them.

Plenty of exceptions though, it seems.
