Are you a hypothetical tea leaf?

The hypothetical situation: You get into the back of a taxi late at night and tell the driver your destination. You see a small bag on the floor behind the driver's seat. You take a peek inside and it's stuffed with money - say a million Baht. There are documents inside identifying the owner as a businessman on holiday in Bangkok. What do you do?

    *tea leaf = thief
The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

I'd probably take the dosh, as long as the taxi driver wasn't taking me home. If he was taking me home, I'd probably tell him to go to a different location with lots of farangs around, pay him the fare with a small tip and then get into a different cab.

I would call the businessman as I wouldn't trust the tai driver or the police.

I wouldn't negotiate with him at all however I would insist in giving it back to him personally just in case he was feeling generous.

I would use the money to buy the taxi from the driver and then drive around looking for more businessmen on holiday.

15 years ago I would have no hesitation in giving the money back, (although certainly not to the cops) now after years of being ripped off by every cvnt here who thinks he has more entitlement to my money than I do, I would pocket it, fvckem, there is no reward for being an honest man here.

PP, the businessman is on holiday in bangkok. I am assuming therefore he is not a thai person and therefore not one of the people you mention above.

Take the money and try to contact the businessman. Once or twice half-heartedly.

If he answers, I give him his stuff. If he doesn't -- I tried.

^ Not just Thai people MM, after I had my "troubles" with the embezzlement and the the thieving cops an Canadian "friend" helped me out by providing storage for some bikes, guess what ?
That piece of shit helped himself as well, this guy is well off courtesy of a very large inheritance, so he didn't need the cash. I knew him quite well, he had spent time at my house with my family, didn't stop him from getting his share when the opportunity presented itself.

Myself, been a honest man all my life, in the company of other like minded citizens it works, here, being honest is a liability because it doesn't equip you with the skills to defend what you have.
I don't mean that it justifies stealing off others, i just mean if an opportunity cames your way, don't let your Western morality inhibit you from saying "thank you"

Yeah I got to agree with that, it would have to be something serious to actually keep and use the money, maybe a new car or a new mia noi, other than that I would try to give it back but would probably missdial his number and then give up on the idea

The other option is the Thai way, rationalise until I have convinced myself that the Businessman is a an international drug smuggler on his way to buy coke and ruin 1000's of lives's, so by keeping the money I am doing mankind a favour.
To be on the safe side just in case he wasn't a drug smuggler, I will use some of it to buy the monks a bag of rice and small bottle of water each.
By making merit in this way I am absolved of all my sins and can happily buy whisky, beat my wife and with a clear conscience shag my new Mia noi formerly a sing a song girl.

If the businessman had any sense he'd be insured. Everyone's a winner!

Would have kept it until I read this. Now I would have to give it back to restore the good name of Canadians.
