Who moved to Thailand after a short holiday?

I wonder how many people had a short holiday in Pattaya (or somewhere else) and had a great time, and on the strength of that decided to move to Thailand?
I've been to Thailand about 8 times, but usually for two or three weeks at a time. I am considering selling up and moving there permanently, but wonder if I shouldn't first have an extended holiday, like three months before making that final sea change. There's really nothing to keep me in Australia any more, most of my friends are married or in relationships, so I seem to see less and less of them, but I don't want to end up another sad and lonely bar fly who you see propped up at a bar on beach road (pattaya) at 10.00 am.
I'm sure there are guys who feel just as isolated living in Thailand as anywhere else, who realised that all that available (at a price) pussy wasn't the answer to their prayers.

so your answer to avoid this fate is moving to Thailand?

A short holiday is not really an indication of what it's like to live somewhere full time. You don't have time for the little irritations to blow out into huge irritations.

so your answer to avoid this fate is moving to Thailand?

Or are you basing your question on your own personal situation?

I understand now why both Jet and NR have rejected your advances.

I had a couple of days in BKK on my way to Hongkong and decided to move here. Took me another 4 years to be in a position to implement this.

I guess it's a different situation if you're working, you have something to fill your days. I'm retired, so I'd want to avoid the trap of hitting the bars at midday just for some company. So I guess that's another question. How do people fill their time?

it was it was, but i'd lost me teeth again, and wanted to find them first, i checked in the kitchen sink, in the leftovers, in the fridge, i finally found them in the tiolet, musta dropped them there after having a piss (I usually piss sitting down, less messy that way) anyway fished them out, soak them in a bit of bicarb and soda and good as new, Bob's your uncle!

Plenty of stuff for old boys to do in Pattaya these days, you got lawn bowls, plenty of fishing parks scattered all around and if all else fails you always got ropeless bungee jumping off the Pattaya Tower.

From 1981 to 1985 I spent my time off from working offshore in Manila, Bangkok and Singapore with the occasional trip to Indonesia.
All I was interested in was drinking and rooting.
Finally settled in Thailand (Phuket) because:-

Go back to UK? No way! Not after sampling the delights of SE Asia.

    Malaysia? Too muslim.

    Indonesia? As above.

Singapore? Great women but get used to the idea of being poor for the rest of your life.

Philippines? Lousy food and the men could be complete arseholes if you were a stranger.

Vietnam? Wasn't open for business then.

    That sorta just left Thailand.

Visited Thailand ~ 25 times between '00 and '06. Half work, half play. Usually stayed between 2 and 3 weeks each time.

Finally decided to move here permanently in Spring 06. I'd never consider living in Pattaya or Patong. I know myself too well.
