What Is There To Do In The City / Province That You Live In?

What is there to do in your city / province?

What must do sites are located there? Temples, parks, ruins etc.

What farang watering holes or restaurants are there to eat and drink at? Any recommendations? Or any advice on places to stay away from?

Any guest houses or hotels you would recommend?

Many of us travel around the country and would like to hear what we could do where you live!!!

In Udon there is Farang alley, a grotty collection of about 20 blow away bars,
similar to that ramshackle collection that used to be on the Asoke Cnr, but you had better be quick as they are all being demolished in two days time.

Then there is Soi 5 where if you walk down a spotty Thai youth will call out "wanna girl mister? "
He will lead you into one of various houses (using the term lightly) where upon you can feast your eyes on a bevy of young Lao girls ready to inflict any manner of carnal delights on you.

My wife says according to the local Thai gossip website, the going rate is 70 Baht, where upon I replied , bloody hell ! I must have got the Farang rate then cause it cost me 300.

For Udon thats about it really.

Pattaya really don't have a lot going for it, well, unless your after cheap dirty perverse sex, but apart from that it is a pretty laid back beach resort with a real crappy beach and polluted sea water, but the sex is good and cheap

The countryside here is nice but there are no attractions worth a visit.
No farang pubs and no farang food.

The best reason to visit Phrae is because there are no tourists.

I thought you might say that.
Phrae is a great place to live but it doesn't have any tourist attractions.
It's biggest plus is that it is still largely natural and has virtually no tourists.

The only problem I have, where I live, are the poor unfortunate farang that get dragged here by their bargirl girlfriends to show them how poor ma and pa are so as to ensure they carry on sending 10,000 Baht a month to support them from doing a job in Pattaya that they hate. Different month different boyfriend. Speaks for it self. Then off back to Pattaya for another punter. Will the farang ever learn ?

There is Wat Prathat Cho Hae, which is an international pilgrim destination and well worth a visit.

    An exceptional golf course.

A beach in the dry season.

Occasional visa runners who bring wit and conversation.

A few western bars that offer very good fare although a tadge expensive,

Thai restaurants that are just freakin' fantastic at ridiculously low prices (although prices are now growing.)

    A small town environment.

Many foreigners live here that have never gone the sex tourist route and have taken time out to learn Thai etiquette.

    Stunning sunsets on the Mekong.

Very, very few ladyboy freaks in the bars (sorry, but I don't think they should be allowed out in decent society - I know that makes me a latent homosexual but I don't give a fuk about that)

And to finish for now, the deal clincher, Laos duty free - Beer Lao, Heineken not brewed in Thailand, wine, pate, Stolly and Smirnoff, Glen Fiddich/Morangie (sp), Bombay/Gordon's all at silly prices.

Edit - Sorry, forgot to mention that this is Nong Khai I'm talking about.

The Thasadet Market (but avoid all Chinese made electrical goods 'cos they're shite) and Sala Kaew Koo deserve a mention as tourist attractions.

While there is this 1st class resort:
The Tide Resort- Luxurious Boutique Hotel Thailand
    owned by Kamana Poh
and some excellent (and expensive) seafood restaurants, Bangsaen is famous for two things:

    1. Its beach, which is not a great swimming beach but a very social affair (particularly on weekends when all the Bangkok Thais hit the place) and as a farang you are still rare enough to be a novelty. Weekend evenings on the beach are fantastic as they leave the tables and deck chairs out and all the restaurants stay open to serve food and more importantly, cold beer. They have huge light pylons on the beach with just enough bulbs blown to make the light quite pleasant.

and 2. Burapha University (and its mostly female students). There are no girly bars (but rentals are easy to find). The vibrant nightlife centres around live-music restaurants, pubs and discos to cater to the student clientele.
Most of the staff working in the restaurants are students and can be friendly (they like to practise their English).
Very easy place to meet girls in their late teens/early twenties. Don't expect a shag on the first night though. A lot of these girls come from well-to-do families and it'll take some work to get in their pants.

    Good place to live too.

Another bonus is you are about one hour away by car/bus from either Bangkok or Pattaya.

I passed through Phrae once on a motorcycle trip, seamed like a nice laid back town with a good night market. Didn't really do anything touristy, there are some great wilderness spots to visit though if you drive out a bit.

If you like tapioca and rice then you've made it in Non Suwan. Other than that forget it, unless you want to call in for a beer.

Restaurants and pubs require patrons with some cash to spend. I'd guess the average monthly salary in my village is between 6,000 and 10,000. Probably closer to 6.

I was thinking of ones that cater to farangs. I know they have some in Korat, Surin, Prassat, Ayutthaya and some others.

Yeah, unsustainable without regular expat customers or a steady stream of tourists.

There is one in Nan, which I recommended before.

A friend of mine used to have a Pub & Burger bar in Phrae.
He was doing quite well and built up a good thai and farang customer base.
He was forced to close when his wife walked out.
