| Ranong | kevin costner told me to build it and people will come..... i believe that i must buy a plot of land and build a house and guesthouse on that plot of land, if i dont kevin costner the film actor will hunt me down and make fun of me for not doing what he told me to do in a dream ( where i was standing in a field) one ccould say it was a field of dreams.haha ha from this day forward i will bring you the story of how i listened to kevin and made a business and home for my wife and yet to be born baby....... links and other affiliated interests will be posted as soon as i m able to do that. for now there is nothing but the tantalizing image of what could be possible....... i dont have a pic for that either but use your imagination .............. in a whispered voice that of kevin costner "BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME................UNLIKE MY FILM WATERWORLD ..............

| If I had a dime for every "resort," within 50 km of my house, I'd be very happy. I'd be happier if I had a penny for every vacant room in those "resorts." I'd be quite pleased to have 25 satang for every luxurious, spacious and acommodating resort -- that's for sale at a bargain basement price. If you're serious about it benlovesnuk (*snigger*) do a lot of homework before you buy/build anything. One variable absolutely indispensible to a guest house is ... guests. And don't expect them to be Thais. And don't expect them to show up much more than 10 km from the airport/train station/bus terminal. |

| Ranong | Okay, so this i"m sure will please all you that want me to use grammar and the shift key properly. It seems i might as well do it form now on for practice, but believe it is that i have an Asus eee laptop which is very small and has fiddly keyboard. I thank you for your kind thoughts the truth is i don't need to smoke substances to be this banal, i am just slightly strange and the heat doesn't help my cause! I am not Irish though, so no problems there, i am indeed English. I regard the posts on this forum, specifically the construction forum as being of great help in understanding what to do and what not. i have also spent the last 6 months in researching into land, building, materials, marketing as well as other important subjects! Speaking not only to Thai, but farang alike and have come up with some sensational and some ludicrous ideas (most have been through the consumption of alcohol)! I understand implicitly the amount of numerous business's that change hands in around Thailand, more specifically in Chiangmai where i will be based. however i truly believe in what we have as a concept, shown by research to back-up what we intend to do. Firstly this is not a vacation home for me, or for that matter an investment for a quick return. This will be my home with my wife and child, and of course family members. However the idea came to merge both home and business into one site as this is more convenient for both i and partner, and i like the idea of a family business (it is of course something that thai's do a lot). I had many conversations with people about making a lot of quick money, with business's revolving around subjects and area's of either no interest or idea about making it work. To conclude, the plan is simple to make means for simple living for a family business to last and allow myself to enjoy time subsequently with my family. The land and house and maybe guest houses will all be paid for with no loan or credit needed and so i will gain from this one advantage from many. i understand that people, guests are a main concern, however as i have said (although not too much too soon) i am confident in our concept to pull in people, grouped with the experience of what we offer with a competitive price because of our position and needs being simple and little, compared to most! redneck you might want tom come when we have built it all maybe you've spoken to soon, though i'm sure you'll disagree, maybe i could persuade you with one night free and a beer when its built!!!!!!!!!! i hope to show pictures soon when i can upload...............kevin says it can be done and i have faith that kevin will pull me through!!!! Of course for anyone unaware, in my first post i was pretending (jokingly) to follow the same footsteps as kevin costner in the film field of dreams, where he's told to build a baseball field from a ghost baseball player to follow a spiritual story..........hahhahhahah i know not funny ![]() |

| Interesting choice of business. There are some 300 guest houses in Chiang Mai (give or take 150). What makes you think people will choose yours instead of the others? |

I think i told you just then..... Kevin Costner told me that if i build it people will come, what more proof do you need??????????? There are lot of food stalls and eateries but people have to eat, as do tourists have to sleep somewhere, just because there are a lot already, does not mean they are what people want. If something is better of different (which i believe it is) then they might jut all want to stay with me instead! Like i said there is no need to have guests it will be our house, there is no real pressure to acquire success. However my wife and I, would like to earn a small income in showing tourists a different type of stay in Thailand which we are prepared to work and make into something that will be as profitable as it needs to be or self-perpetuates! An idea that a few have started but not seen through to its full potential and with my added twist. My wife used to work at one of the sawasdee's in khaosan and everyone wanted to come back to the hotel to see her. Truly, her smile illuminates places and people, that is another secret weapon! (though not so more of a secret) i hoe this helps. regards ..... | |

| Kevin mighta said it, but my friend WP Kinsella wrote the book Shoeless Joe (the movie was based on that). You should thank him. And, no, I wouldn't just build and expect them to come. |

| I liked that Kevin Costner movie. Rather than build a guesthouse I think you should build baseball diamond with concession stand. We can start building them all over Thailand. Soon we will have a league of our own. Major League Baseball Thai-style! Well, it would be more interesting than Pablo's Guesthouse! |
