Forms of Speech (Women are not on the same footing as men).

I've noticed that women's speech differs from that of men. Been trying to find out the reason behind this obvious difference but in vain.

Women use standard language more often than men do, thus appearing more linguistically polite. Please bare in mind I'm talking about Western women as the situation in non Western countries is markedly different.

Some linugistics believe that women are aware of their low status in society and, as a result, use more standard speech forms, in their attempt to achieve high social status (I don't agree with this theory anyway).

So can you guys shed some light on this issue that has sparked a considerable controversy among linguistics and general masses?

I actually do try and speak more polite with people I dont know very well but it usually changes and I speak more relaxed once I get to know someone.

I don't know mate, most of the birds I hung around with in the UK talked the same scummy language I do.

But then I hung with the lowest of the low and as a loser myself maybe I talk the same as a bird or something???

My Mum talks a bit posh even though she's an apples and pears girlsee!

Macha mistakenly contracts you are IM, so he's saying I've noticed you are!

It's damn hard to write with the male member Macha...unless you have an incredible foreskin like mine

I havent noticed that at all. I think its just we have so few women, that you pay particular attention to them Macha, and none of them seem to have ill feeling toward you.

    I hadn't really noticed.

Most women talk shite anyway, so I don't bother listening.
