What side of the road do you walk on

I am not sure how to make a poll, but I thought an interesting question, What side of the road to walk on, it seems there is no custom here in Thailand.

Now I have the poll to work, but it is amazing, some parts of a single street people walk on one side and then 50 meters or less up the road people are walking on the other side. I mean left to right.

Wherever the soi dogs or market stalls or food stalls are not obstructing, which doesn't leave much left.

If I have to walk on the road, I face oncoming traffic as any sensible person would. Usually on the opposite side to the Thais strangely enough...

How do you do that if traffic is coming in both directions on both sides of the road????

The only thing worse than seeing cobras is seeing cobra skins. Where are they!

I think it can depend on which way you're facing.

I like my left hand to be against the buildings personally.

    Was that in CM ff?

I saw a documentary on the flight back last time out which was set in a LOS North East village that was loaded with cobras - scared me it did.

As for the question: I'm quite a fast walker so I tend to pretend that I'm a racing car as I weave in and out of the other people-cars. Sometimes I get carried away and make a honking noise.

I hate to cross the street. It doesn't matter there's cross road or not but they just want to hit people only! Grrrrr.... especially the busses in BKK.

I caught a small cobra once, only a small one, I chucked it in the back of my truck, drove home then thru it at the neighbours dog, they were both too scared and ran in differant directions, another time I had one jammed between my desk and the wall, now that was a big bugger, have to find the link for that story.

    The cobra or your lawyer?

That's a bit scary. What's the story if you're bitten by a cobra? How long have you got before you start thinking, 'Uh Oh!' ?

Should start thinking that "Uh Oh" as soon as you're bit but just don't panic. Wrap some cloth around the wound and up from there and get your silly butt to the hospital.

^Thanks - hope I never need to use the advice.

I've always been pleasantly surprised by the small number of creepy-crawlies I've come across in LOS. I've seen a few cockroaches, a couple of snakes crossing the road, and a fat German on the bus back from Poipet.

I've got a 5 foot cobra skin in my freezer waiting to find a tanner to do the skin for a belt. It was killed by some Thai farmers that live down the road from me. I have seen a few more but by the time I get to them, the Thais have chopped them up. Snakes don't bother me and neither do any of the other "creepy crawlies" that I see around Thailand. The old Far Side cartoon of the little man on the cockroaches' back is funny though. "Get it off me, get it off me"
