Only care about the teaching profession when it is related to life in general. As in, "You can't find a seat in the Cathouse from 4-8pm. All those skint English Teachers are taking advantage of the 100 baht all you can drink special."

I'm pretty sure dirtydog is a teacher ... I'm just not sure what he's teaching those young ladies in Pattya.

I am not. And I don't give a shit about teaching. Will probably start to pay attention when my kids get older and start school, though.

oh yes, those Welsh women!! and their funny hats.

No, I am not a teacher. I work on contract wherever they want me, and I get all sorts of allowances and loads of money. The downside is that I am not working in Thailand at the moment, but in Malaysia. Last year I was in Ghana. I want another contract in Thailand really, much nicer.

oh well, I do get lots of time off (unpaid)

I just reread my post and it makes me sound a bit smug

I tutor a bit. I also do other stuff.

I see a lot of people go on about Korea and how much one can earn there. When I convert it into Baht, earn a similar amount but I can't save any money here, so I've got no chance in a boring, more expensive country like Korea.

    I think I'll stay here.

My mates that spent time in Korea said they basically just worked all of the time, or most of the time. They didn't have much fun.

I tried it once and found that it wasn't for me. Maybe in the future I'd like to try it again. I was thinking of doing a TEFL Master's in CM. Not sure if it would be worth it. I think I'm more attracted to the idea of 2 years preparation...Kinda like putting off doing the decorating by sanding down the paintwork for 5 minutes once a week. What bothers me is the idea of being the 'centre of attention'. There seems little opportunity for dozing off the hangover on a Monday morning.....or Wednesday afternoon.

I love teaching, but thanks to the likes of kk (the only course entry requirement is 600 quid, and u are guaranteed a pass), the teaching market is flooded with sexpats, keeping salaries down and properly qualified teachers away.

So are you saying you need a Degree to teach Tefl in Thailand - anyone with 3/4 of a brain can teach their native language.

    No they cant.
You can show someone how to speak a language, but you can only teach the intricacies of a language.

So KK is to blame for low salaries?

Fuk me Smeg, when you choose to be a complete fuking idiot with nothing more than a rotten fart to use as an argument you truly fucking excell!!!

That really is the most unresearched, immature, sorry retelling of a loser, sexpat's miserable excuse for his unenterprising lifestyle (and unpressed laundry!) I've ever seen.

"Why are so many sexpats here in LoS, Smeg?"

"They work for next to nothing purely to keep qualified experts, like myself, out of a decent paying job!"

"So it's got nothing to do with the tarts then?"

Oh Smeggins, this will be kept for future referrences to your lack of credibility.

If people like kk didn't rely on making a living by accepting anyone and everyone into these so-called "teacher training schools", its pretty obvious that teaching standards and salaries would rise. But with 50 odd 4-6week wonders being spat out ofthese schools every month, desperate to live in Thailand, what incentive is there for schools to recruit proper teachers on proper salaries?

there wouldn't be any incentive anyway as the language schools would have to pay more wages - that would mean fewer Benzes for the MD's to drive round in.

What about all the Tefl courses in England - same old shite with them really.

Well I aint a teecha yet but I am gonna be. If I pass all my exams. There are 8 in all. It aint easy at TNT you know Smeg. I nicked off for a ciggie during the coloring in bit and I got into awful trouble. I think they are gonna make me do detention on Monday. Prolly for the best though as I lack discipline. In actual fact, I overheard KK talking to someone where he mentioned my name and 'discipline' in the same sentence. Of course he may have been telling porkies. I hope not.

I can't see the point really in forking out for ANY kind of course if you only want to teach in Thailand - I mean it's not like they check the certificates anyway - cheaper just to read a 'how to teach English' book.

You are a fucking idiot Smeg.

TEFL schools simply fill a vacancy.
If there was no need for TEFL instruction these schools wouldn't exist.
There is nothing that any farang can do to alter the pay rates here which is obvious to anyone!

You and the likes of BangersPhil dream that Thai schools are drooling at the thought of not having to employ a smelly dread-locked backpacker and they are sitting there waiting for the day when sexpats no longer come to thailand and they will be free to spend the baht they presently hoard on the likes of you!

    You are sooooo naiive Smeg.

Schools need incentive to spend 80K on the likes of you.

    I'm fucking pissing meself.

Now can we stop talking about fuking teaching.
Except maybe in the CS days at school thread.
