Retired Briton is murdered in his Thai river home
A BRITISH man who retired to Thailand has been murdered fighting off gunmen who burst into the riverside home he shared with his wife and son.
Arthur James Green, 63, a former construction manager, was shot three times in the back and stabbed twice by two men in the attack on the outskirts of Ratchaburi, 60 miles west of Bangkok.
His Thai wife, Yukhonporn, 45, was then driven 20 miles into the countryside at gunpoint by the intruders, who demanded the PIN code for a bank card.
"I stubbornly refused. So they later dropped me near a canal," said Mrs Green.
After a search of the house failed to locate Mr Green, police and rescue workers found his body on the bank of the Mae Klong river. Thai police said the murder, on Saturday night, was premeditated and said Mrs Green had given them information that contradicted details given by her relatives.
Detectives investigating the killing are to interview all of the immediate family. Although they have not ruled out robbery as a motive, they suspect it could have been a revenge murder or a contract killing disguised as a robbery.
Mr Green, from Ripon, North Yorkshire, had been married for 15 years. He had four-grown-up children and six grandchildren by a previous marriage in Britain.
Yesterday, his British family said they were still "numb" at his death and were planning to fly to Thailand in the next couple of days.
