Is living in the sticks a good thing?

I always find it strange when two Westerners meet at a bar or a cafe even though both are native English speakers they flip over into Thai with each other. Why?

a: Can your wife speak any English mate?
b: Ahh man, she speaks nit noy English John.
a: My wife is good with money she is really khee niaao what about yours?
b: She is a real little buffalo when it comes to money.

    Cant figure that!

Most of the Westerners i meet in the small villages avoid eye contact when i'm just about to say hello. Maybe it's just me...

Fuck me I'm guilty In the course of English conversations Thai slips out with out even knowing it. And speaking Thai with the ol' lady a word or two of English pops out sometimes too!

Never happened to me, but then I can usually tell the difference between Thai people and farangs, a few things to help you distinguish between Thai and farang.
1; perky breasts on a cute body = Thai female
2; saggy breasts on a saggy body = farang male or female

I don't speak very much Thai at all, but some words come into my head in Thai instead of English, like I always think jin-jok, not gecko. If I ask my son what he's doing, or similar, it's as likely to come out in Thai as in English. I think that's because my BF didn't speak English when I met him & neither did his son, so I learnt a little Thai while they were learning English & we always conversed in a mixture of the two.

Yes, sometimes local is more concise. If I'm talking with a long-term farang, sometimes its easier to say jangwat rather than, "our equivalent of a state."

I have a very difficult time, however, slipping the words "freelancer" or "barfine" into a conversation with my grammy back home without a protracted explanation.

My wife and I still use a lot of leftover words from Japan.

Nothing wrong with a bit of Thaiglish but you ain't the only one that gets annoyed by it....

Sometimes I say "can I have nam pau?" when in a restuarant only for my good lady to say "why do you not just ask for water you stupid twat?"

I think she may have a point but I still do it...

I use words like Soi and Klong when speaking to my English speaking friends. My personal favourite is "That's a bit fucking pang, isn't it?".

The network is slow as molasses in January, an engineer came to my house unannounced I didn;t let him in he's ben here before nice guy but he knows and I know the problem is the whole fucking segment.
Was talking to the ol'l lady just minute ago as I was dong an upload exclaimed in a somewhat angry voice, "Internet Chaaa Maaak loey!"
Then smooth as you please; shifted gears, "we've got to Prien ISP"
