Australia to adopt Thai style internet laws

Australia looks set to copy Thailand and start blocking sites the government doesn't approve of.

The new Labor government wants internet service providers to filter content to ensure households and schools do not receive "inappropriate" material.

Service providers will be expected to stop the flow of pornography and other X-rated or violent content.

The government is set to compile a list of unsuitable sites, although at this stage it is unclear what will be deemed unsuitable.

^ It's unclear from your OP, whether you are in favor or not of the proposed new laws?

What would you consider to be unsuitable for Internet viewing? Should some material be censored/ blocked in some way or should there be complete freedom of choice? Thoughts?

    1. Kiddie fiddling stuff
    2. Bloodthirsty scenes of people/ animals getting killed or maimed etc.
    3. Thailand related message forums.

It's just another sad step in the control of information via "regulation."

Of course I am against government censorship of what I can link to or down load. However not everybody is as intelligent or mature as myself.

Seems the internet is heading the way of bookshops.

Governments all over seem to be heading in the direction of more restrictions.

It's not very surprising. Governments, by definition, are not comfortable with unregulated things. Let's just try to make sure they do not take it too far.
