    Sonthi Imprisoned

The Media Magnate, Sonthi, who led the Pro-Democracy anti-Thaksin movement has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for defaming Thaksin.

Thai media magnate jailed for libeling ex-premier Thaksin - Asia-Pacific

I suggest the coup leaders leave the country PDQ

Anybody still have doubts about Thaksin's powers?

He has only been sentenced though, I mean rich Thais don't actually bother going to prison, do they?

It seems clear Thaksin still has the courts behind him. Frankly with the Legislature and the judiciary in his pocket I can't see anything to stop Thaksin now.

As for an all-out class war we'll have to wait for one very tragic passing. then all hell will break loose, and us Farangs are seen as elite, rich, educated. Sod that, I don't want to be around for that event and am looking medium term at living in either Singapore, Hong-Kong or even Cambodia and just flying here occasionally for work.

I personally saw the writing on the wall a few years back... Things will get worse, before they get better. Falangs will just become more of a liability than they already are.

Hehe - no this is the media millionaire who staged the anti-Thaksin rallies in Lumphini Park. You would think he kinda knew what could and couldn't be said.... but in an environment where what is legal depends upon who is running the country it is a tad hard to know what to say.

Yes I understand after reading your link but at first I thought of taking cover thinking General Sonthi was put in the slammer.

^He'll probably end up in the same cell as Kamnan Poh.

If he does go to jail it will set a precedent.

Poh is probably getting ready for a senior position advising the new government.

    What goes around comes around.
Sondhi Limthongkul was out to get Thaksin at any cost. The plot thickens. The game is not over.
John Cleese, where are you? There is all kinds of material here.

The Thaksin, Sondhi feud goes way back to business dealings gone bad between the two. Of course Sondhi claims Thaksin cheated him and Thaksin claims Sondhi was the cheat. Who knows or cares at this point.

Sondhi's sudden interest in democracy was generally know to be a veil for his personal vendetta but he fooled/paid enough people to rally behind him and act as the catalyst causing Thaksin's downfall.

Jail is right where he deserves to be. There may be a class war but IMO Sondhi will not be a player. He has lost his get out of jail card free.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

I would have to respectfully disagree with the comments regarding Sondhi bad, Taksin good.

Sondhi is a hero in many ways - who took on a creep called Taksin. He lost, won, seemingly lost again. I happen to respect him immensely.

Taksin is the one who deserves to have himself strung upside down & have his balls shoved down his throat.

That may as well be but at this moment in time Thaksin has not been found guilty of any offence whilst that lying crook Sondhi looks like funding the last PPP election campaign in order to compensate Thaksin.

Resality Thai style - as viewed in a mirror.

It may come as a surprise but I agree. Never said Thaksin was good just pointing out Sondhi's motivation was not about democracy but a vendetta against Thaksin. Think they should both be in prison. Better if in the same cell.

You have a strange perspective if you think Sondhi is a hero. He used his media empire to manipulate the Bangkok middle classes into a situation that made the coup possible. Anyone who considers at this point that the coup has benefitted Thailand really needs to do some serious thinking.

Sondhi has been convicted of defamation over what is generally known as the Finland Plot, roughly a plot dreamt up by Sondhi in which he accused Thaksin of attempting to turn Thailand into a communist state.

Sondhi also accused Thaksin of being behind the destruction of the Erawan shrine by having a witchdoctor put a spell on the poor sod who did the deed.

Sondhi has also been actively campaigning to have Thais in the North East disenfranchised on the basis that he considers them stupid.

Thaksin is no saint but at least he isn't mentally unbalanced.
    Lord, deliver us from e-mail.

Sondhi represented the interests of the financial elite & emerging middle-class.

If it was purely a personal thing, it would have gone nowhere.

The coup happened, & will happen again in the not-too-distant future - as the underlying driving forces have not been removed. The next time may not be as peaceful.
