This might well be the most unpopular thread on TD. :)
But I've come across quite a few seemingly well-educated folks here.
It's not an indicator of intelligence, sometimes an indicator of the opposite. I promise to reveal my credentials following the first full page (if that occurs)
University of Life - been there for 60 odd years but still aint been told when I will graduate. :)
as above, i dropped out at year nine, and went back, completed a trade, and have a couple of bits of paper on the wall, but life was/is my best tutor especially learning from the mistakes of others!

No university, but i did pick up an HND from Southampton Institute of Higher Education along the way in my career
Dropped out at 15, forced back in by my parole officer at 16, dropped out again at 17, parole dept paid for me to go to community college at 20. took some metallurgy, physics, architecture, welding and mathematics courses along with history, psych and writing courses over the next couple years at CC, a semester at UoP (University of the Pacific). Balanced that against what I could make.
Started welding pipe and working heavy equipment. Certified Pipe, pressure vessel, plate, stainless pipe & pressure vessel, and rebar :) got tired of being dirty every day, went back in my 40s for a while; business courses, some computer sci courses but they were kinda slow and behind the times. Did some UC Berkeley extension courses, they were good, timely.
Never appreciated someone trying to teach me, always did better learning on my own. Most the students were half-wits still trying to get off-topic and get by without learning anything; figured I didn't need to put up the bullshit. Always figured it was knowledge and the ability to acquire it that was most important.
So. University of Frankie?
Did A-levels but didn't go to university. I did do my RGN training though, which I've heard compared to a degree, although, since you can get a nursing degree, I don't think it can be similar.

I seem to get sidetracked easily.

I have thought, in recent years, to work on ships or try to break into the oil and gas industry. Know how to get into the shiiping, but just been lazy. Do not know a thing about oil and gas.......
I still have a desire to see the world still, but will probably never leave Thailand unless an opportunty knocks.
For me I left school at 15. I've never had any vision of wanting to be better than someone else and only mixed with people on my own level. But unfortunately I come on this forum and have to do battle with people that are educationally superior. Which is somewhat unfair as they use this to their advantage but that's life, I'm not complaining.
I've got a couple of uni degrees, but apart from making it easy to get good and interesting jobs, it makes very little difference in my everyday life.
I think it was mentioned in another thread, that people without higher education often seem more concerned about it than those that have it.
Some of the most intelligent people I have met have been without degrees. Some of the biggest idiots I have met have been university graduates. And vice versa - so it doesn't really prove anything.
Now what does irritate me is stupidity, intellectual laziness and ignorance. When people discuss a subject that one knows little or nothing about, one should stay quiet and, if one finds the subject interesting, listen in and perhaps ask a (stupid) question or two to learn more.
But what pisses me off is when people who know nothing about a subject, and have never made an effort to educate themselves on the matter(as in reading, listening or practicing) suddenly start mouthing off as if they were some sort of authority on the matter. Thai shop assistants are amongst the worst......:)
Higher education is fine, but what is much more important in life is the ability to remain curious, absorb and retain knowledge and the capability to view a subject from different angels.
I wish I were able to do that......
For that matter, the mate of mine that has made by far the most money is a carpenter from London, who made his millions in the retail business in Sydney and Perth.

Have a degree in industrial piping, took 4 years, been working abroad since I graduated. Been around the globe mostly in steel-mills, paper-mills and power-plants. I've been fortunated to see parts of the world that most people never get the chance to, I think that have been my best education ever, to see different countries the way they really are, and not just only the tourist traps.
