Is it cause they're homo's ?
Is it cause they're homo's ?
It's homos, mate. Not homo's.
's is possessive or short for 'is' or 'has'. The plural s has no apostrophe.
Its worked its way over to the UK as well. Whats with the rising tone at the end of a sentence? Always sounds like a bloody question is being asked. I blame Neighbors and Home and Away.
Ow yer goin' mate?
I like it. It's friendly, congenial.
Wish my country used it instead of mo**er**cker.
As Marmite was recently accused of being a sell-out for using, "biatches," I will take the hit for using mates. It's a good term.
Basically because we cannot remember anyones name.
^
But y'all's good at geography?
better then the yanks anyway.
^ that would,nt be hard
i've heard some septics use Pal or buddy!
mate sounds a lot more friendly like!
i would like to know why they all call me 'cnut'?
in fact thinking about it, that's not just limited to aussies
^ Because they can't spell ****?
It's similar to why blacks call each other Brother in that they don't know who their fathers are and for all they know there's a good chance they are.Originally Posted by Tchiowa
Wasn't this question asked in one of the Shaft movies. As I recall Shaft didn't like others calling him brother ?
Friendship actually means something in Australia. Australian males place considerable value on their mates. Maybe born out of the adverse condtions that the Australian pioneers encountered, where they relied heavily on community support, or maybe just being a new country there were not the same social barriers to having a wide range of friends, no matter what your class roots were.
For whatever reason Australians in general are a freindly lot, if you a travel around and have some intial contacts they have few reservations about inviting you into their social circle.
So, when Australian friends get together, they are "mating"?

At the end of a good nights drinking, the sheila's often become Mates.
Because all their ancestors were ship "mates". The term just stuck.Originally Posted by Tchiowa
