    It's homos, mate. Not homo's.

's is possessive or short for 'is' or 'has'. The plural s has no apostrophe.

Its worked its way over to the UK as well. Whats with the rising tone at the end of a sentence? Always sounds like a bloody question is being asked. I blame Neighbors and Home and Away.

I like it. It's friendly, congenial.

Wish my country used it instead of mo**er**cker.

As Marmite was recently accused of being a sell-out for using, "biatches," I will take the hit for using mates. It's a good term.

Well in the US, it's homeys, not homos. And in Thailand it's a joke.

Have you been socialising with CMn recently, or, are you trying to take away his rep as the Apostrophe Nazi?

Wasn't this question asked in one of the Shaft movies. As I recall Shaft didn't like others calling him brother ?

Friendship actually means something in Australia. Australian males place considerable value on their mates. Maybe born out of the adverse condtions that the Australian pioneers encountered, where they relied heavily on community support, or maybe just being a new country there were not the same social barriers to having a wide range of friends, no matter what your class roots were.
For whatever reason Australians in general are a freindly lot, if you a travel around and have some intial contacts they have few reservations about inviting you into their social circle.

So, when Australian friends get together, they are "mating"?

    Spot on.
Start of the night, its 'mate' or 'sheila'. After a few hundred neck-oils even the sheilas become 'mates'

At the end of a good nights drinking, the sheila's often become Mates.
