    Wanna bet?

    I'll admit, I hate it.

I grew up near Atlantic City and I've been to Las Vegas several times.

I personally can't stand the thought of throwing money away.

I know a lot of people find it exhilerating, and some even boast of massive winnings. I've never met anyone who has won more than he's/she's lost.

While tempted in my youth, I've never once bought a lottery ticket. Have you? What numbers do you pick and why?

I know Thai's love to gamble. When I lived in Japan, my neighbor's Thai wife was at BINGO twice a week and never missed Vegas Nite at the Club. I cautioned/educated my wife about odds and house survival -- and she was never a problem. To be fair, I think the Thais bet less frequently than Americans. The national lottery is twice a month and a few football matches take in some, but it's not as pervasive as I remember back home

    So, what's your take?

Every Thai I have met loves a gamble, but they have absolutely no idea when to stop.

    I like the casino.

The lottery is for mugs & horse races are all rigged.

Um, nope. If they were, I'd be rich as some fam and alot of friends are jockeys, thoroughbred owners and track officials.

Asians love to gamble. The casinos here are a sea of Asians with a few whiteys for accessories. Lots of loan sharks in the parking lots. They kill people who don't repay.

Have nothing against Gambling but never indulge, every year for 20 years I attended a conference in LV, in that time never dropped a dime in a slot machine, no appeal for me.
My old man the same, while he was a keen race horse owner he never even bet on his own "sure thing".

Don't gamble myself but about a year ago was asked by one of the Thai neighbors to pick a winning lottery number. I picked one out of the blue and be damned if he didn't win a lot of money. I now get monthly visits from a dozen of the village folks to give them a number. After trying in vain to explain the winning lottery number is completely random and any number would be as likely as the next to win, they still insist on asking for a number because I happened to pick one winner a year ago. I always say I have had no dreams or visions this month and have no number to give. think I might be better off just giving them a number that will likely be a loser. My fear is the number may win again against all odds resulting in a much worse situation for me.

I like to play Blackjack once or twice a year.

Fast game, little thought (but you do follow rules), and it's streaky.

Las Vegas is fun for the scene and a show or two. After 2 days I have to get out of there.

There are casinos in my hometown, also.

Living in Thailand is a big gamble. You have everything you want but it only takes one mistake to lose the lot.

This may be an urban myth but have heard from many that casinos with Asian clients have to put spittoons (pisstoons) at the tables because Asians will not leave a table when on a winning steak even if they have to urinate. First heard about this in reference to the Crown in Melbourne. Can anyone verify?

Drinks are free if you're bettin' in Vegas.

Sorry, nickel slots aren't considered betting, rather slow-death.

'Chance' gambling such as the races, casino's etc are just a flutter for me. I do it sometimes but never with serious money.
On the other hand, in investment markets, you would probably think some of my activities over the years a bit hair raising. But I figured then the odds were on my side. I'm pretty conservative these days- when all is said and done, I have enough but not enough spare to take aggressive risks. I can thank a divorce for that.

I was at the casino in Perth Aus and there was a young asian slapper trying to exchange 10,000 USD in cash (in a brown paper bag) at the teller. They wanted ID (no way said she) for foreign exchange of that amount and she was right pissed off.....for me it was love at first sight but she was probably a little too high maintenance!!

I love gambling but know when to, and can, stop.
