Thread: Why don't many Thais wear Spectacles?

Is it 'cos they have good eyesight ?

They don't often wear Sunglasses either have ya noticed?

Incidentally, don't waste your money on those 100bht sunglass copies of designer Brands. They fall apart in no time flat! I bought some Guccis. Lasted two days.......Crap!

Because they don't read books!!!

Well, losing 100 baht is nothing compared to losing your eyesight.
These sunglasses have 0 UV protection but they are tainted, hence your pupil open wider when you wear them and you get the full dose of UV on your retina.
A bargain, indeed...

Whaddya mean Thais don't wear glasses? A few of my friends do. Far more than my Western friends; who wear lenses.

Bluecat's right. You buy 100bt sunglasses, they're going to do more harm than good.

I see alot of Chinese Thais wearing glasses, but mostly older ladies. Sunglasses -- it's the same with most Asians: has something to do with the upper eyelid cover or the shape. For us round eyes, more of the iris is exposed. But, most do wear hats...

IMO more Asians per head of population wear glasses than caucasians.
This could correlate to Thais being asian therefore the same??
Many poorer ones can't afford optical fittings and buy the el cheapo magnifiers.
Then again many white pensioners do the same??

my girlfriend has a nose that cannot support the glasses 'frame' so
wears contact lenses instead.
this may apply to many other thais also.

What dobella said (gay name btw). Most Thais don't have much of a nose, so contacts or more probably looking at their driving and pedestrian skills, they just go around half blind.

A lot of the university students prefer to wear contact lenses to glasses. As for people up country I'm sure a lot of them don't get them due to a lack of funds. There should be more screening in public schools and students should get them for free.
