Twitter or FaceBook. Did they really kill discussion forums ?

Do you buy that theory ? Seeems that there's some truth to it.

I think forums will make a small comeback.

forums are where I go when I want technical information

and discussion forums like this will make a comeback on the TOR system as authoritarianism continues its mission to identify people

this is true. There has to be some data out there on the popularity of forums. I've done the Twitter thing but the forum is still the best format for online community imo

yeah me too. Anytime I need to fix the truck, I always end up on a forum. Not twitter of FB. So maybe forums still have a lock on that type of stuff

Harder to get doxed or placed on a 30 breaking "Community Standards" by goading Brexuteers and other right-wing knobs here. Long live forums!

Yet, there stands thousands of forum-style venues engaged in every conceivable subject matter and language.
They've been around forever [the original "social media"] long before the advent of the fabricated commercial variety of what as been placed as social media.

Forums, of this type, have always been numerous and healthy - and more than likely always will be.

Twitter, with the short message format does not make for a good discussion platform. Add in the unmoderated nature that allows scammers and anit-vax/anti 5G/insert anti whatever to follow popular posters and drown the media with crap and you end up with interesting soundbites with no option for meaningful engagement.

Fakebook is a good place to hear opinions from only your select circle of chosen voices that you like and is also a great place to lose your friends with MLM schemes. Apparently it's also a good place to push advertising that can influence stupid people to vote for other stupid people but I wouldn't know because Adblockers exist.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

Well it`s certainly a lot quieter here than back in the day.

Dirtydog used to keep this place busy all by himself sometimes. It was always entertaining waking up to one of his rant threads where he posted pages of posts as he let off steam.

He really was one of a kind.

As a matter of interest, how many other posters has the forum lost due to passing? I know the Big C also got Klongmaster , and there was an elderly American guy who was lovalbe despite his strong right wing views who died, though I cant remember his name. Are there any more that I don`t know about?

I miss patsycat. She commented on my Boracay thread before, that she would have loved to stay at the resort where I was, because of the name! It was called Alice in Wonderland Beach Resort.

I've gone back to Boracay and that resort is gone (new name & owners), as is Patsy.

I come here for picture threads, laughs and gossip. . Is anybody else on a Tindering adventure aside from YD? Lol.

^lol. I'm not on Tinder. Too old for that - I don't know if my millenial colleagues are there. And I'm in a relationship.

If you look at my recent threads, there are always 2 beers on the table.

    Depressing stuff. Forum members dying.

To be completely honest, i thought this forum was a little more active than it is. I did some searching. Apparently mods changed the forum up. Is that still happening ?
