    Remember your first ever posts????

I used forums occasionally before coming to LOS, but these were in relation to work and not in any sense social. I picked up on the Ajarn forum from a link on the main page and found myself quickly dragged in. I read the Ajarn forum for good while before joining and always felt a intimidated about posting anything - Marko and TMB didn't seem to take any prisoners. Then emboldened by drink I wrote what I thought was a masterpiece of a reply-post in a thread by sodum. It went through about twenty edits and was full of, 'although I can see merit in aspects of your opinion, may I respectfully suggest.....'. More dreadful than you can possibly imagine. Anyhow, I sat back and expected reams of replies to my intelligent, considered opinion on the matter - not a dicky-bird. A good many more wastes of pixels followed before chang made a comment on a post and I felt a buzz of acceptance - sounds a bit melodramtic, but there you go. After that, I felt more relaxed and started posting spontaneously - now, I just type randomly and if anything intelligible comes out so much the better.

    Ajarn is wank..

Started my forum life on LP I think but got banned straight away , then Ajarn - same treatment.

I had some fun with barladies.com about a year back where I discovered the joys of 'flaming' - got banned from there after about a week and actually ended up having my ISP blocked from about 10 different forums.

This was a pain in the butt as I was mailing from home and couldn't just nip down to a handy cyber - cafe.

In fact I only ever trolled forums until I entered the Teak Door so it's great that this place exists .....trolling is fun but a cyber - home is needed too.

    Good 'ol teak door!

Who cares? You think you're f*cking running for Congress someday? Post a way.

    Sounds the same, today.

sounds like there's some history between you two........

I never made it on the Ajarn , just couldn't remain in control of my posts for long enough - although I did manage 80 posts under one nik once!

    Good!

Danbo, I was joking and trying - note the work "trying" to be funny and loathe-evoking at the same time.

I miss you from the ajarn days, and it's been a long while since I've seen you.

And, when I am sarcastic towards someone, it doesn't mean I dislike them - it means that I do like them!

    Cheers.

I remember the first stroppy reply I received to a post. Somebody wrote a real insulting reply (not Snaff) to a post. It wasn't constructive in any way, just one of those, 'you're a tosser and you smell of wee' variety.....Made my blood boil.....Sweated on it for days.....How ridiculous is that......I also used to get into 'arguments' which degenerated into a series of ping-pong insults - daft!

These days I just look at myself in the mirror, bang myself on the chest, a la King Kong, and shout out loud twenty five times, 'danbo, you're the best'. - works for me.

I don't take things too seriously on forums. I've gotten great information on many, many, things on these forums. Some info. I've gottnen has saved me tons of money!

I've also met a couple blokes because of the forums that have become good friends. Without the forums, we would have never met.

I don't take things too seriously.

But....some people do. Not many folks, but some people take things too seriously and the make assumptions about people from reading posts.

I am going to the meetup in Jomtien and I am excited and yes, - a little nervous - to go.

It'll be very interesting and fun to meet up.

My first chatroom post ever was on ajarn. It was the original version started by Ian. A colleague pointed out this webiste for teachers at work. I had no clue about how chat rooms worked. One night after heavy drinking I logged on and posted something. THe next day I forgot my password. Somehow the momentum was lost. It was six months later before I posted again, and that time I used a password so obvious that I couldn't forget it. Teakdoor and ESLcafe are the only other chatrooms that I have ever used. I try to resist getting sucked into them.

I've used Esl cafe a bit in the past but it's got a NO DISCUSSION policy that seems a little daft to me.

given up on that one too.

Years as a network geek, never posted on a forum. Someone turned me onto Ajarn I checked it out; was interesting but a bit pugnacious at the time, was intmidated. Then read a thread where Ken volunteered some visa info to regular posters I signed up and PM'd the dude.
Fuckin guy sends me the politest fuck off reply i've ever received. In short told me i wasn;t a regular poster so go talk to a fuckin' wall.
I started posting. Fuck if I remember what I replied to. Finally sent a PM back after 50 or so posts. The guy was happy to help. been posting there until I kinda got more intereestd in this joint. Still tyin' to figure out; did he do me a favor or dirt?
This shit's a great way not to work; hell, i even look like I'm workin'.

I've always found Ken (KK that is) to be of great help - even to total newbies .....perhaps he has a mean streak in him at times?

After several months of reading ajarn i read this:

I am renting my home in Nontaburi. It was just renovated with two floors and two bathrooms. It comes completlly furnished with two TV's internet and a computer. Water is included except elect, because the A/C usage is up to the tenant. The kitchen is modern with all the things for a cook(haha)There is a big back yard and a community swimming pool in the securied compound. The house is near all the majour stores and roads. The neighbourhood is nice with good neighbours. Ideal for a family with kids. The cost is 10 thousand bath a month with a two month deposit.
Good for teachers who want to stay in BKK for a long time. There is a good oportunity to operate your own private tutoring from the house also.

I am going over seas to work and dont want the house non-lived in.
It is available now or in the future.
Send email if you are interesed to wcaverley1@hotmail.com
    To which i replied

    Where is it?
    To which Ken helpfully noted

In Nontaburi mate (it's the seventh word in the first sentence).
Not exactly an exciting start to my posting career. I don't even know why I made the post as i had no interest in the house at all.

Anyway since then I've made several hundred more banal and pointless posts.

I did once post a picture of a very small cock and some kind of arse disease, though.

He was very specific about established posters in this particular post it was during the time, 2 1/2 - 3 years back; when there was a lot of Visa 'crack-downs' goin' on. Since that time KK has gone the extra mile to help me a few times. Since the dude never did coe up and meet me guess i'm goinna have to get my narra ass down BKK way and find the fucker, force a beer or three on him.

DD will get a smile out of this...

After reading ajarn for a couple of months back in early 2003 but holding back posting, I finally made my first post asking for the experiences of other posters who had brought their farang wives to Thailand, as my wife and I were still tossing up whether to come here and I had noticed the only wives spoken of were Thai.

You can imagine the replies I got...

I gave posting an immediate rest for a few months.

I had a history of posting on fantasy fiction boards before I came to ajarn or teakdoor - i think it did a lot to shape my posting style. I am always slightly in character, but I think that is good in a sense, forms like a protective shield between you and other posters.

I mean a wouldn't want to get close to this many members without a protective shield would I?

but like most newbies, my first post was made after much lurking - I had the perfect avatar and a really cool sig and felt ready to go public, and with trembling fingers made my entrance....

    which was completely ignored, lol

I was brought up on chat boards, the old bkk chat and paltalk, then thaivisas chat, I seemed to have problems though staying online as they kept banning me, this was when I decided to learn about getting round bans and sticking 10 nicks in at a time and changing ip and other important stuff like that, then one xmas holiday my staff had 2 weeks off so I had a lot of spare time, so I joined bkktonight forum, alas I first used the dd nick there and only 2 days previously they had banned a poster called dirty guru, so those bstards all assumed I was him, well I didn't take to that too kindly so then I obviously got a bit abusive and they banned me, I then spent the next 10 days foking with their forum, I then registered some of there more prominent members at thai visa and posted as them, I then nicked bkkphils diary of a school teacher and posted that as my own on tv, that was quite a fiasco as obviously those old farts scorn shool teachers, it took 3 nicks to post the whole lot, as it was getting a bit controversial, when I finished it I pmed phil on ajarn and told him what I had done, he then went on there and posted that it was a faked up joke story, and then I started posting on ajarn, and well the rest is history

Well I had just returned to Australia after almost 14 years away but had come to Thailand en-route to catch up with some old pals in Kan. I had spent a few nights drinking in a ramshackle bar called Jacks bar and was convinced by my mates that starting another bar in Kan wasnt a good idea. My mates had argued that an easier life could be had teaching English and on the day I took my outward flight my mate said to me that if I was serious I should check out ajarn to answer my myriad of questions about teaching in the Los.
When I arrived in Oz I logged on to ajarn and started reading for a few weeks before I eventually posted. I was blooded by all the arguements that I had read and I just couldnt resist. I logged on initially as Dutch Walter and had a pop at the fact that it seemed like a private club. I had seen a bloke called Chavez get flamed horribly and although I didnt realize at the time that he was in fact a troll I went to his aid and took on the likes of Marko and TMB.
My first thread started an arguement that went on for ages but in it I got flamed horribly. Instinctively I registered a new nik, Captain Sensible, and went in as hard as I could. I hadnt realized that in doing so I was already trolling but I decided to stay with the CS nik.
I guess I attracted quite a bit of attention from the get go coz I continued to counter all the lambast that was hurled at me.
I remember leaving a post saying that they all should be ashamed of themselves before finishing by saying that I couldnt care less and that I was off to the pub. It was Memock who posted that he hoped that someone might have pushed me in the klong on the way back from the pub.

It is odd and strangely warming that MeMock has gone on to become one of my best mates on line. Next weekend I get to meet him for the first time and I am really looking forward to it.

I should also point out that when the dog first came into my sights I lost no time in suggesting that he should be banned from these forums, citing that his posts were equivelant to sebum that I had squeezed from a pimple.

Hehehe. Now look at us. That was almost 3 years ago and I am now resident in the house next door to him with a 26 metre LAN cable going out my balcony door and over into his gaff and into a router behind his PC.

    Who would have thunked it.

I do exactly as you do danbo and it works up to a point and then my missus says "Who the fuck is danbo?"

Another excellent thread from probably the most entertaining poster I can recall.

My first posts were an argument with Ken, who at the time I wanted dead, as a tribute to the guy that he is, he pmed me with an explanation for his point of view and I was rather deflated with my arguing.
He sort of sums up how one should approach the bitchiness of threads.

It's great to have the snaffmeister here I must say!

My first posts were on Thaivisa..I fell in there whilst looking for some info on Chiang Mai

After telling DrPatpoo what a wanker he was, and CNDVIC tyhat he should be ashamed to be sleeping in the same bed as the DRpp, as well as mentioning that TV was a shithole, I suddenly found I could not post there any more..I had not realised that dictatorships still existed in cyberworld.

I went back under another nick and was more circumspect in my replies.
    I have reported your post
