Farang women and Thai women integrating in Farangland.

As the title goes, what's your experiences of farang women mixing with Thai women and them integrating into Western society.
A complex question with many variables, be interesting to hear members views and experiences.

Thais don't integrate very well, they need Thai friends.

...Thais with poor language skills and little understanding of cultures different from their own (read Brown folk) probably won't integrate successfully...those who have been educated abroad, however (read Thai-Chinese), are more experienced with the vagaries of foreign life and better suited to fitting in...

Well, I can only speak from my experiences. When I brought my wife to America she spoke not a word of English. So, her “integration” into falang land was slow. However, lack of Thai speakers forced the issue. She never studied English but did pick it up.

First things first, any foreigner first learns the numbers and the money as shopping forces this issue. Can’t read menus so buffets are favored. Picked up English from TV. Family females and neighbors actually enjoyed the novelty of babysitting and teaching the exotic “Asian” family member.

Now, this happened a long long time ago and memories fade. But, my wife integrated reasonably well, although serious bouts of homesickness did occur. Frequent return vacations and daily/weekly telephone calls (calling card prices at the time) internet in its infancy, no facebook, line or realtime photo phone type communications.

She survived. When we married my repatriation was forced by economics. I had to accept the fact that if she could not adapt I would be forced to return her to her home. A serious risk as she had never not lived under her fathers roof. We married at me 40yo and her 35yo. First marriages for both.

Interesting that we “found” a local Thai Wat about a 20 minute drive about six months after relocation. She did not integrate well with the Thai American wives. She considered them “stuck up”.

Many layers to this onion – repatriation/relocation is never an easy event. My perception, I am certain, would vary somewhat from hers. For the most part I spent my long days working. She had to fend for herself. Weekends I dedicated to her. Yes, it is work, but, any marriage is work. We are masters of our own destiny and you get out of it only what you put into it.

Success rarely comes easy. My wife succeeded and for that I am extremely grateful.

Can't help with integration in Stoke, but if you're going down on a bird, it's gotta be Thai. Similarly, they're obsessed with western birds' big tits, so they're often happy to mix in western society when it suits them.

Never did take any of them to Farangland, but there was some integration that night.

Probably doesn't answer your question though, CCC.

Chitty ... "farang women mixing with Thai women and them integrating into Western society" are really two distinct different questions.

Mine has some Caucasian friends and has integrated into a Western lifestyle superbly ... exceeded expectations.

What specific answers do you seek, Grasshopper

Complex answer as so many variables.

My input. My wife spoke and understood English very well being she worked in BKK at a very large hospital and interacted with English speaking patients. When we moved the US she acclimated very fast and of course me working we socialized a lot and she fit right in at dinner events and outings. Also what was very nice was many were very curious about Thailand and lots of conversation were fun for her. Another plus was living in California with its diverse cultural living.

I think huge factors are their communication skills, their personality type and what the husband does.

It's a lot easier for a Thai woman in farang countries to hang out with other Thai women because of language and culture and experiences.
Women from other Asian cultures are in some ways easier for them to relate to than farang women.
But as has been said above it really depends on the individual.

Women have a great capacity to communicate (well duh ....).
Presumably most men have observed a group of women all talking and nobody is listening to anyone else. This is still considered by the sisterhood to be 'communicating'.
I've sat on a plane full of people from the same workplace. The men were all as silent as the grave - whatever has needed to be said has already been said. The women were all chattering to each other despite having been talking all week already.

Another example - a friend's mother visited Australia from Germany.
She spoke no English but as was her custom in her village at home she went shopping every day for the day's requirements.
The local shop was run by an Italian migrant woman who spoke no English.
Nevertheless the two ladies managed to have a good talk every morning.

When in Thailand we live at the Family Farm ... but that's central Thailand.

Bangkok is maybe 90/120 mins away ... closer as the BTS spreads out.

Just that the Farm is very isolated and difficult to egress.

Before we used to live at the (Thailand) Farm, now we split our time between Thailand and the West.

I've got a Filipino friend on Facebook that I worked with in Singapore.

He and his family moved to Canada probably about 10 years ago.

Lack of English is not a problem, so they should integrate easily, right?

Every photo that he ever posts, or gets tagged in, NEVER has any non-Filipinos in them.

It just looks like he and his entire family are only interested in other Filipinos.

That's probably due to the fact that a fair number of wives were swinging off a pole before they met their "hubby."

Birds of a feather thing I reckon. We farangs living here have same tendencies. See the same with Mexican Americans in US.

While I enjoy a get together with fellow farangs on occasion, here in the sticks, on day to day basis I socialise with locals who can't speak English at all. In fact Thai is a chore for most of them.

Onus is on me to integrate as much as possible with them. Still much to learn but listen and observe is all it takes. Necessity is the mother of invention.

really depends where you live I assume,

Thai are naturally shy, so integration is naturally hard for them

I find communicating through ones actions or using charades generally gets the message across. Admittedly two of my wife's family are deaf.

That might be the more twisted definitive that most don't want to examine, as it's reflective of what they really are.
How well does one {Farang] integrate/fit into everyday Thai [or any Asian] society and life?

Shouldn't be surprised if the numbers and defensive answers are slightly embarrassing and lame.
