Yes. And the only reason we know this is by observing the red shifted galaxies receding from us.

In the future all the non-gravitationally bound galaxies recession velocity will increase to the point that they disappear over the horizon of the observable universe.

Then the only observable stuff in the universe will be the gravitationally bound local cluster of galaxies.

The observable universe will then appear to be what we thought it was 100 years ago. Just our local galaxy region and then empty void forever. And there wil be no way of detecting the true size or expanding nature of the universe. Even the remnants of the cosmic microwave background will be redshifted beyond detectability and there will be no way of determining the age of the universe for intelligent civilisations which emerge in the far future.

    WOW!

As you say 100 years ago our observable universe was just one small corner of the MW, now it spans almost 100bn light years. So our observable universe must be growing faster then expansion.

If there is no fresh material entering our universe we will eventually get to a point of maximum entropy. Otherwise known as heat death of the universe, although the multiverse theory would put pay to the Maximum entropy hypothesis. Up to this point in time no one yet knows what happened before the start of space/time.

The ancient Greeks had the sun and the planets revolving around the Earth, an ingeniously complicated system to follow their movements was devised, and accurate predictions were able to be made. Given the technological level of observation it was the best could be done.
Of course now we know it is not correct.
So now we are looking at the observable universe, and based on our limiter technology and understanding we find that there is insufficient material to produce the necessary gravity for the expansion of the universe. So we also have devised ingeniously complicated systems involving such magical placeholders as "dark Matter" and "Dark Energy" which allowed as to make accurate predictions. These placeholders are just that. Placeholders until we know better.
Instead of "Dark Matter" we could has said that the additional gravity is provided by " Bling Blopt" and we would be making just as accurate predictions to an equally wrong theory.
I submit to you that we simply don't know, and people who make their living out of pretending to know, don't want to admite that they don't know. It is entirely possible that the systems we have for counting the amount of the matter in the universe is is not accurate , or that we don't even know what gravity is.
I submit to you that we are a bunch of blind people trying to describe an elephant by touch.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Our universe may be just a projection of a sophisticated VR computer program. This theory has gained a lot of traction lately.
