my step-daughter came to live with us in Perth when she was 9.
She got a good education (she's 20 now - going to Uni). And I'm glad about that and very proud of her - it wasn't easy coming out of a shit thai school system.
She is an aussie now - sometimes a bit too aussie.
She loves LOS but doesn't want to go back there to live - she's fluent thai speaker (of course) but losing the writing ability. Her mum probably thinks shes losing her culture - but wifey has thrived too - job, car, house heaps of friends etc - somewhat ambivalent about living in LOS again.

Miner in Perth - will you get to see the kids? - on a fifo roster? - they grow up bladdy quick - and then you miss them...

When i think of Oz I think of the Gold Coast, beautiful weather, women, beaches and Looper fucking eight times in a day.

When someone then mentions Perth, Oz I think of moustachioed Silom frequenting Ocker firemen, aborigines, supers,Coopers home brew, ganja, blurters and dogging road trips in a customised 1980's pick up truck come mobile home.

BLD, I was in almost exactly the same position as you a few years ago - about the same age, same line of business, two kids (both boys, two years apart in age).

The boys were going to an international school in Thailand using an American curriculum and I was not too happy with the results. I had plenty of work on then and had lost most ties with Australia and could not get away anyway.
I eventually sent them to boarding school in Australia for their secondary education.

They came home to Thailand every vacation - so 4 times a year. The main things they learned, as near as I could make out, were drinking beer and playing rugby. The big advantage out of it was complete fluency in language as I thought that would guarantee them a job on expat wages if they decided to come back to Thailand. I selected a school in a city where I had a brother living and they were able to hang out at his place on weekends during term.

One of them eventually did an apprenticeship as a sparky and is getting good wages working at coal mines, currently in the Bowen Basin.

The other one joined the Australian navy for a 6 year hitch which also included an apprenticeship. He returned to Thailand and now has FIFO job in Lao, rotating out of Chiang Mai.

I am only mentioning this as another option for you to consider. It wouldn't work for everybody but my blokes actually enjoyed boarding school (on the Gold Coast, who wouldn't?). It was a hell of a financial load for me but it seems to have worked out in the end.
