All sortz of weirdos hanging out here in vientiane to. Mofos. Got no time for them.
Be interesting to know some of their backstories.
It wasn't me. Iv'e almost been back now for a while. Now that I think of it, the other pale faced son of the bucks have nothing left to shoot for. Explains a lot to me.
The beer might catch my eye for a few seconds.....
I used to live in Nong Khai about 8 years ago, right next to the river. Nice place, good promenade for walking and jogging.
Now I've moved to a smaller town east of NK (I'm sure you can guess the name), which also has a promenade. I like Issan next to the river and decided to move here because an old friend from Canada also recently retired here.
I guess it's true that most Westerners in town are old, retired and married to local women. I'm single, not retired and happily not married anymore.
I'm settling into my new rented house that backs onto the Mekong (well, about 300 metres away from it now because it's just a dribble...). 3,000 baht rent a month with 2 bedrooms, huge living room, all in half a rai of land. I already had an erection (the erection of my ham radio antenna of course...).
Saw some more weirdy foreigners in town yesterday. Do none of them wear long trousers/pants anymore? All nobbly knees and sandals. None of them seem to possess a decent pair of chinos. Nor do they have jackets or ties, (I am clearly an old-fashioned, eccentric Brit because I wear a light jacket when I'm around town, plus of course a black half-topper...)
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
I don't get the Europeans that wear the pants or shorts (Not sure what they call them), that are below the knee about half calf. I mean whats the point. Wear shorts or wear pants but those things look really dorky. Its clearly a Euro style.
I haven't seen a foreigner in the Lampang area in a long time. I met a nice Aus guy one day a few months back. He approached me and struck up a convo. I'd guess late 60's early 70's. Been the most normal westerner I have met in a lonnnng time. I suspect the more remote one lives here the more weird the westerners are. They moved out there for a reason.
I'm with Simon. Whether I was retired or working I seldom ever wear shorts out and about unless riding my Mtn Bike, never ever wear tank tops and sandals are out. I wear Flip Flops occasionally around the house. When I go anywhere I usually always wear Levi's, clean shirt and athletic tennis shoes.
Funny that...I see lots of Americans in calf length trousers.
I have a Californian colleague with a house in Ayutthaya who teams them with socks and sandals.
He is...umm...instantly recognisable.
but why would you wear long pants in this climate ? and closed shoes ? are you worried about sunburn ?
I wear the same here as I wear in FNQ , collared 100% cotton short sleve buttoned shirt , cotton shorts ( the tropicals style with a zip ) , cotton budgie smugglers and a pair of thongs ( flip flops for you weird cnuts )
a lot of those are cargo style with useful pockets on the sides
Aside from myself the only dodgy folks in my ville are a few locals.
We have the touretts fella who makes the rounds daily waving his arms and swearing like a sailor.
The drunken old auntie down the road is fun. She is the village flasher. Never a wai and a swadee from her. Make eye contact and up comes her blouse and a wiggle of her shoulders to get those saggy tits swinging.
In general most of the farangs in the area are Swiss or German. Germans are for the most part tatooed scousers. Swiss generaly well mannered, well dressed gents.
