    Bought a Mobile Phone

Recently I sold one of the investment propertys, made a tidy profit.

SWMBO doesn't ask for much and I was keen to share the spoils.

So I asked her to pick a camera. She currently has a Galaxy A5

Not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, just the one which suits her needs the most.

Much deliberation, a month later, the choice is announced.

Staying with Galaxy, she chose the ...
    • Samsung Galaxy A9
    • Dual SIM 6GB RAM,
    • 128GB
    • 6.3” Full HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display
    • Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Octa-Core processor
    • Android 8.0 (Oreo) Operating System
    • in Lemonade Blue
    • The world’s first smartphone with 4x cameras
    • 8 + 10 + 5 + 24MP rear camera, 24MP front camera

Yep ... 4x cameras ... are you reading this Punty

    It's her Birthday soon.

Paid the equivalent of THB 13,000

Just a heads up if you like your photography from your phone.

    More doesn't equal best

BTW ... I'm not boasting, just giving an example of what is available on the market today.

The only 'app' I have on my my phone is Sudoku

I have Samsung S9+. Incredible camera. 19K baht on special with AIS. I can't believe camera companies are still in business. Sure for the professional user but the general public user Smartphones really cannot be beat.

Jai dee for sure. Sounds like you didn't buy it in Thailand? Just checked and it comes back at 13,650 and 16,500 for 32gb, and 22k for 128gb.

I'm still dithering from months back, would like to stay under 15k otherwise at risk of impulse leading me to the top end, prefer around 10k which ought to be good for 2-4 years, will probably end up with a Samsung if I ever get around to it!

Agreed David. I have a nice camera I used to use but have not even opened up the case for 2 years. They are bulky, to carry, slow in loading and lots more work. Again the majority of the population doesn't care about depth of field or super telephoto. Just take real time pics and move on. I have to say my S9 takes incredibly good pics, even at night to the point I will probably never use my Nikon again.

THB13,000 = AUD571. By not incurring a speeding fine, you can afford it, David. Latindancer could learn a lot from you.

I very much like the depth of field adjustment function on that phone. I'm sure it will trickle out to other models soon.

^ For 10K go for the Pocophone F1 or if you want to splash out just under 20K go for the latest One Plus iteration (awesome piece of kit).

Did you look at the latest Huawei?

"Huawei has called it "re-writing the rules of photography". The big advance is in zoom, particularly for the top-of-the-range P30 Pro. Zoom has often been a weakness in mobile phone cameras, with most unable to magnify significantly without distortion. The P30 Pro has a 5x optical zoom, a 10x hybrid zoom and a 50x digital zoom, the most powerful yet seen - and photographs seen at the launch show back up the claims of new levels of clarity with the "periscope" system."

I read an article about it last week but can't find it. The zoom was incredible. Google it, you'll be impressed. Except that it's too late now.

    Did I look? ... nope. SWMBO's decision.

It's 3 times the price of what I bought so does that make it value for money?

^ Mate, again ... not relevant ... I bought what the Lassie liked.

A very modest one. I don't buy her stuff because she doesn't need me to buy her stuff, and if I had made a "tidy profit" to split with her, she still wouldn't want a less-than-modest one. Different priorities.
Since your OP was about camera abilities, I thought I'd mention the Huawei. Since you mentioned the tidy profit you wanted to split with your mrs, I would have thought expense was not an issue. You're not one to exaggerate, so surely the tidy profit from a property sale in OZ was not a matter of a couple of thousand dollars whereby a $3000 phone is not to be considered over a $1000 phone?

You bought it? Why didn't she, after you "split the profit"?

^ What he hasn't worked out is that I'm one of the few people who talks to him ... not at him.
Might be a newbie mistake, but I believe in equity in the forum (until you prove yourself to be an utter dropkick).

Where, in the OP did I say "split the profit"?

    Manny, don't invent stuff please.

As an aside, rather then spending big bucks on a mobile phone we decided to but a few extra thousands
in to her Super (401k). Far more sensible then a really expensive phone.

Meanwhile, back to the OP ... just a heads up about a decent, affordable phone with a serious spine for taking photos

"Share the spoils" is what you said. What's the difference between splitting the profit and sharing the spoils of a tidy profit?

They are both completely different in fiscal appreciation and intent.

    It's 30 - 40 years away, but she's planning for it.
