    Finding it hard to boot.

So I'll start with this. It's what I've known in winter, Sommers are a breeze. An so having led a decent life I find it hard to leave.

To preface this I'll have you know that I've always thought, dreamed, prepared for a less complicated or better said, a simpler life.

Yes, it's there. I've seen and lived it throughout the years. It was once the end goal so to speak.

But now I'm not so sure, I think I've got cold feet. It's not so much about this, that, or the other things. Things that may make you run, things that make you say this is as good as it gets. Well, having been around it ain't that bad...

I applaud anyone out there that has taken the plunge into what is clearly another world, for me at least, and welcome there story.

Somehow I believe I'm not the Maddest MF on the planet

I've a few years to talk myself into or out of SE Asia.

It would be interesting to know some of the stories behind the folks that have made the move.

    sincerely, the fishes.

Oh, and rock on BLD. You rock.

The Pendleton ain't so bad. Ice fishing soon to follow.
I just can't get over how, no, I will not say it, but it's true. Sad and true. Things have to change for the better. I hope.

I'll give it a few years and then we'll see the way it's heading. It may be on a brighter tone so we shall see.

SE Asia - The path was laid before my feet, as it always has been.

Throughout my life my decisions have always been simplistic. Many options have been presented yet, in the analysis of the options presented – well, the “correct” path was always quite clear. Never second guessed any of my decision(s).

A most “hectic” and busy life without any defined or desired goals other than “survival”.

Did combat military time as a young man and survived. Worked corporate America with a sought after and desirable skill set, allowing my most undesirable personality to achieve “success” in corporate America. Being damn good at my job allowed me to sidestep the “enemies” I made along the way.

Partnered a business in Bangkok in the mid-90’s. Asian financial crisis killed the venture. Married my girlfriend and returned to the USA.

At retirement time the wife desired to return home – so “here we are”.

As stated earlier - the path that was laid before my feet was quite clear.

Thanks for your honesty in that reply.
As for myself I met this girl years ago and have since, well it's history. We built a place in her home area, Laos. It's a nice spot right on the river. The only drawback is the road system. Yes, you can take a boat to town. And once in the town. Well, yea it's 1840 as far as I can see. Not entirely true as there is the new mall ect. No shows in English though. But hell, Huawie was more than happy to sell me unfettered access to the Internet so I could check on my foreign bank accounts ect. Gotta love them as they are just trying to help a poor boy out anyway they can

It's all good in the end. Each time I go there I gain a little more knowledge about the people and the area. I give it a couple of years and I may warm to the place.

I've ended up here but really didn't have any master plan. Simply followed whatever decision I made based on opportunities. Could just as easily been Africa or..

But if i ponder too deeply I might come to believe that I have always been escaping from something.

Damn, I've been though Pendelton a number of times. Never ever saw that much snow. Hell, we have much less snow up in the Okanagan.

    Good luck with the decisions.

Africa, sounds good in principle, but not for me. Although they may have good intentions surrounding myself with black folks is something I've been taught the hard way to avoid if at all possible.
Believe me because they told me so.
