Mum named daughter's name "Abcde" and people laughed ... say it isn't so!

Southwest Airlines employee mocks five-year-old girl called 'Abcde', says mother

A US airline has issued an apology after a mum claimed an employee mocked her five-year-old daughter's name, "Abcde", as they were preparing to board a Texas-bound flight home.

    Key points:

    • "Abcde" is pronounced "Ahb-sih-dee"
    • A Southwest Airlines employee posted a picture of the child's boarding pass online
    • The mum claims the airline "hadn't done anything" two weeks after she lodged a complaint

Mum Traci Redford told US broadcaster ABC7 a Southwest Airlines gate agent at John Wayne Airport, California, laughed at her daughter's name after seeing it on her boarding pass, before posting a picture of it on social media.

Ms Redford said the incident occurred when she was pre-boarding with Abcde — whose name is pronounced "Ahb-sih-dee" — as her daughter has epilepsy.

    ---

Bullshite ... you name your child before/soon after (within a few days), no way they knew their child was epileptic.

    As an aside ...

is naming a child “Abcde” unique? NOPE ... “According to the Social Security Administration database, 328 babies, all girls, have been named Abcde in the United States.
    Since 1990, we’ve had Abcdes born every year except 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996.
The name was given to an all-time high of 32 babies in 2009, though the number has slightly declined each year since then.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Apparently its a latin alphabet spelling of a Hawaiian name - some knobber probably thought it was clever to spell it thus rather than more phonetically.

However, hardly great that some gormless airport employee sees fit to publish a childs details on the internet. What about TERROR and ISIS and all the other things we have to be scared of?

It's Russians now, they're controlling Merkin minds. Errr, "influencing" us I guess is the proper term. Probably made this poor woman give her daughter such a name.

I doubt it has anything to do with Hawaiian as the Hawaiian language has no sibilants.

Polynesian sylables always end in a vowel. I suppose it could be "Apa-see-tee" but it doesn't sound very Polynesian to me.

Ahhh, there's that too. Generally "H" can be substituted for "s" in other Polynesian dialects, so when You see an "h" in Hawaiian, substitute "s" and you've got another dialect (with other consistant substitutions like r for l and space for k, k for t, w for v and v for f ). Eg, the island of Savaii in Samoa...Hawaii, and Havaiki in Maory mythology.

Why bother with the "b,c,d and e"?
I shall push for our new granddaughter to be called "A"

    That's it, just "A".

Look at the advantages; first on every list, easy to spell, easy to pronounce, saves on pen and pencil, hard to forget.

    Perfik.

Though in retrospect the new one should be called "B" and we rename the 3 year old "A" to avoid confusion.

The money you'd save with the cost of embroidering the kids names on their school uniforms would be fabulous.

And she could grow up to make wonderful pies, and if she was short of stature, she could call her pies, "Little A's Pies".
    Oh, wait....
