As usual, typical Thai (Asian) mentality has little sense of self-accountability, and will readily seek any available
(face-saving) opportunity for laying-off the negative results of their (Thai) pre-meditated actions,…on someone else,…instead.

Indeed,...this OP title is exemplary of that ^peculiar cultural character. “It’s the farang culprits,…(not us)…who did it!”

However,…from a universal perspective,…apparently…, there is an obvious flaw in the design of the (ahem) human species.
Of course, the average idiot persists w/ the expectation,…that our governmental (mgmt) “geniuses”, would have gotten the real EPA message,...delivered 45+years ago.

Butt nah!...their ^ rationale was…“We’ll just let our posterity deal with the ultimate outcome.
Right now, we’re gonna make that BIG (chemical-polymer) production m-
o-n-e-y”, until the chickens come home to roost”,…eh?

    …Well,…here’s a news-flash,..folks!...Welcome to reality.

It’s much too late to implement any environmental-disaster aversion strategies now…!
And the usual “governing” body of profound geniuses have taken the global environmental issue far beyond the precipice point. Indeed,..the Rubicon was been stupidly crossed,… again!

Thus,… “the dye" is caste!… Fyi ~ Life is akin to the karmic-standards of a baseball-game;…three strikes,…hence…you’re OUT...!

All things (age-historically) considered,...any reasonable person would expect that both Hindu & Buddhist based cultures,...
would have diligently adhered to those basic principles of life, despite the “ignorance” (not) of the western world,...obviously.

General denial perhaps,...of ever crossing the Rubicon,...w/ All Things Considered…
Now "kill the messenger" again,...as usual,..eh?

    According to AllAboutBags.ca

All About Bags - Paper Versus Plastic Bags - Which is More Environmentally Friendly?

    More Detail
    • Every bag, paper, plastic or reusable, has an environmental impact.

The debate over the comparative environmental impacts of paper versus plastic bags has led to a number of life cycle assessment (LCA) studies in Europe and North America (see section on Studies).

    • The findings of these LCAs support the fact that plastic bags have a smaller environmental impact than paper bags and that plastic bags are a better environmental solution than paper.

The Canadian Plastics Industry thanks you for your consideration.

It's been suggested that he took too much of the bad acid at Woodstock.
    I go with that theory.

In fact, the current topic thread was discussed at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. I know, because I was actually there.
Ditto!...apparently...Manaam was there, as well,...especially considering he knows-it-all (as usual,...as such),...regarding the acid scene,...eh? FY

    Using reusable shopping bags.
Yet, continue to purchase items that are encased in plastic of every sort.....throwing all in one's beloved trendy reusable conduit.

Kinda mindlessly contradictory [even blindingly hypocritical], dontcha think?

To be fair to Villa they have stopped using plastic bags altogether in favour of cloth bags.

Compare that to European governments who aren't banning plastic bags, but instead dissuading people from using plastic bags by enforcing a 2 baht charge law.

fyi: You have to use a reusable plastic bag 150 times before it creates any environmental benefits, compared to the old 1 use bags.

Is that for everyone? The OP suggests only non-Thai, and it's a question already posed.
I hope you're right and that Villa have stopped altogether.

Yes, it's annoying. Pressure has to be put on the marketers and consumers.

I can't find the video but there's a 'no plastic' super opened in Holland, where foods are packed in some plastic-like biodegradable stuff that can be used as compost within about 12 weeks. Sure the early birds will be paying through the nose to save their bit of the universe, but in time it could catch on to become expected rather than a novelty.

I think villa are rightly assuming the few Thai that pass through their checkout can speak English.

As ever theres a cultural component to the mix.

Your recyclable cotton bags are no good for huffing glue.
Where will the unemployed wasters of tomorrow get there start without becoming maniacal in rec grounds and derelict houses by using glue.

    Sometimes I despair.

I doubt there are "many" Thais who "can speak clear, discernible basic English, yet they cannot read English." ...these days. Never mind shopping in Villa.

But, lets just put that point aside for a moment and pretend they do exist, what percentage of Villa's checkout traffic would you guestimate will be these kinds of Thai?
