    Anyone been hanggliding?

This would not be the ideal first time.

Heart-stopping flight: First-time hang glider holds on for dear life after pilot forgets to attach him to craft

    Yep I have.
    Nearly got killed.
Not in the air but on the way to the site.
Climbed between stationery rail cars to get to the people giving me a ride there (the train was across a road crossing and my ride was on the other side).
Just as I was on top of a coupling the train started shunting.
    Dumb kid ....

Even if everything went to plan with the flight, that balls-first landing is enough for me to cross my legs and say Fuck That.

I've never glided nor hang glided, but I wouldn't mind trying out a micro light.

I was lucky enough to do the ParaHawking in Nepal in 2007; gotta say though, like Parachuting, its best not done on a massive hangover. Made the mistake of flying in to Pokhara on a Friday night getting properly lashed and a 9am start doing an activity where i shit me sen with heights - still fondish memories but my un-powered aerial crash days are behind me i am glad to say.

I’ve done micro lighting over the Masai Mara. Was one of the most exhilarating things I’ve ever done in my life.

Been paragliding but it wasn’t as thrilling. Ate dirt on landing one time.

Nice one Kit, i look back on some of the stuff i've done and i'd not consider it these days but i'm glad i did even so - you're invincible and further away from your mortality when you are young.

Not my thing. I like to fly at some serious height. The view from 5 t0 10 thousand feet (1500 to 3000 metres) is quite spectacular. I highly recommend you try it if only a joy flight. I believe you are in NZ, which I have been told by other Glider pilots, has some of the best scenery and gliding conditions in good weather with some excellent wave flying. As far as I am aware nobody has broken the NZ record of 2500 k/m with the pilot reaching Altitudes of 28,000 feet.

For me being able to go from A to B with much less regard to the winds and the land formations at an altitude where you can make out details (maybe even cleavage ) trumps the more serene higher altitude, wider views, and no engine noise. I'm guessing there may be a bit of wind noise? But no matter, yes I would like to try it.
I was first fascinated by micro-lights when I read an article in the late 70's of a guy (US) who used two chainsaw motors and wooden props carved by hand and attached them to his hang glider. Possibly the first microlight.
