    As kids in the (UK) 70's, we never bothered with Halloween. Too busy chumping for firewood, making "Guys" (Penny for the Guy), and burning other kid's bonfires to be bothering with all that daft Halloween malarkey.

    I'd never heard of that. In Oz and NZ we have Guy Fawkes night on 5th November (Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason and smoke?). No mischief night though. Just letting off fireworks in the weeks leading up to the 5th.
    There was something else, too that had faded out a long time ago but I remember vaguely as a child...something about going around begging for "penny for the guy"?
