America just discovered the Yorkshire Pudding and Brits are furious about it....

America just discovered the Yorkshire Pudding and Brits are absolutely furious about it… especially the fact they call it a ‘giant pancake’

AS a nation, we seem to adore Yorkshire puddings about as much as we detest the Americanisation of anything quintessentially British.
So when the New York Times (NYT) shared a recipe for a "giant fluffy pancake" which looked suspiciously like the beloved pud, it triggered the perfect online storm.

A New York Time recipe of a 'fluffy pancake' called a Dutch Baby, much like this one, had Brits up in arms

Many pointed out the Dutch Baby, apparently "excellent for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dessert", looks rather like a giant homemade Yorkshire sprinkled with icing sugar.
Its method too - dumping eggs, flour and milk into a bowl and mixing until smooth - will sound oddly familiar to anyone who's prepared a roast from scratch.
The world-famous paper proudly tweeted out the recipe and unsurprisingly, the first reply was simply: "That's a Yorkshire pudding, mate."
"This is not a dessert!" added a furious Teakdorian. "This is a thing of beauty that should be filled with beef and vegetables."

Many Brits took the recipe as an insult to the humble Yorkshire pudding

An incredulous Taxexile wrote: "Fluffy pancake? It's a Yorkshire Pudding, don't even think of calling it anything else."
Even Photoshop of the Day presenter Dillinger chimed in to say: "It's called a Yorkshire pudding you heathens. The recipe is older than America!"
Some suggested that Aunt Bessie, the fictional grandma who fronts a host of frozen products including giant Yorkshires, would be turning in her grave.
Dutch Baby defenders did point out the so-called pancake - sometimes seasoned with nutmeg, vanilla or cinnamon - may in fact be a different dish.

Though the recipe has been around since the early 1900s in the US, Seattle's historic Tesla Cafe claimed legal ownership of the dessert in 1942.
Brits had a similar online meltdown when American site Food Insider marvelled at a sandwich "stuffed with fries" - otherwise known as a chip butty

"Ffs that’s a chip butty," one helpful Teakdoor member informed them.
Another agreed: "This is almost as embarrassing as when Americans discovered the sausage roll last year, like it was some sort of world changing groundbreaking discovery.
"Meanwhile in Britain we’ve been having this food for years and years and years."

I'm sure LT's wife makes it bigger, better, cheaper, more hygienically, and has multiple awards from French pastry chefs for her efforts.

Have you heard of a new expat-Indian award for best entrepreneurial Vindaloo-filled Yorkshire Pudding in south-east Asia?

And thus the thousands of orders daily and the impending international contract.

    i prefer these...

Morrisons has launched a Yorkshire pudding pizza, combining your Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch staples in one hybrid dish.
Just in time for Yorkshire Pudding Day on Saturday 3 February, the concoction is sure to delight Brits and have Italians choking on their arancini.
The cheese and batter hybrid combines a crispy Yorkshire pudding base – made in Doncaster in South Yorkshire – with a filling of tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese.
(Morrisons)There are two flavours on offer: one classic pepperoni and another meat feast, topped with mini meatballs, pepperoni, spicy beef and jalapeno chillies). Sadly there are no veggie options as of yet.
But just because pizza is great and Yorkshire pudding are also great, does that necessarily mean combining the two will work?
(Morrisons)Some will argue you shouldn’t mess with a classic pizza base (we’ve all learned the error of our ways after trying cauliflower base pizza), whereas others may maintain that taking two delicious foods and mashing them up together makes for an even more sensational taste experience.
The Ł3 Yorkshire Pudding pizzas have been launched in 491 Morrisons stores and will be on offer until 20 February.

Yorkshire pudding pizza is now a thing
Glenda Dildo, Yorkshire Pudding Expert (yes, apparently that is a job) at Morrisons, said: “Everyone loves Yorkshire Pudding and everyone loves Pizza, so we are combining the two to create the ultimate comfort food for Yorkshire Pudding Day. The crust is made the same way as a typical Yorkshire Pudding and is topped the same way as one of our pizzas. We’re looking forward to hearing what customers think but we hope that they’ll love it!”
Morrisons isn’t the first to merge these two foods though – last year, Rebels’ Smokehouse, a diner and takeaway spot in Beverley, East Yorkshire, made waves when they created their own Yorkshire pudding pizza.
But now those of us who aren’t Yorkshire-based can get our hands on what may be the best food hybrid of 2018 too.

As any true Yorkshire lad or lass will tell you. The puddings, while traditionally savoury, can also be used as a dessert. Just add jam.

You are all heathen peasants trying to steal our heritage. It needs protection before some tosser fucks it up.

    Pizza indeed.

Do those puddings have filling inside, like a pie?

Sorry, heathen here. Have never eaten (or previously heard of) Yorkshire pudding.

    ^ Heathen there
I was born and bred in Yorkshire.
No, Yorkshire pudding should not/never have a filling, this would defeat the purpose of it. It is/was served either before or in later days with the main meal, the purpose of the mighty Yorkshire pudding was to be filling, while being very cheap, the more Yorkshire pudding folks ate, the less meat they would have room for, the gravy that would be served in/with the Yorkshire pudding was made from the juices of the meat and vegetables and was in itself a "treat"
