Your cut out and keep guide to kicking someone in the head

The next time you feel inclined to kick someone in the head, note that it will set you back Bt1,000. If there is any dispute, simply show them the article below. There is even an instructional video.

PATTAYA, Chon Buri: A taxi motorcyclist who kicked a German tourist in the head has tritely apologised to the public for his action and claimed he was provoked by the tourist, who was bending over when assaulted.

    <snip>

He was fined 1,000 baht for assault, said Pol Capt Chanikarn Phuenpinit, deputy investigation chief at Pattaya police station.

    That's quite weird.
What on earth did the falang do to justify being kicked?
Perhaps some of you splendid Thai speakers can explain.
    I thank you.

I believe the taxi driver claimed the farang gave him the middle finger.

Well of course it was the farang's fault, in much the same way as he threw his head aggressively at the poor chap's foot.

IME, people from countries that don't commonly use the 'middle finger' tend to take it far more seriously than those that do.

great line from the article linked above...

Mr Sunthorn also apologised to the public, admitting his action had damaged the dignity of Pattaya.

A rhetorical question, no doubt. I wonder if the ฿1,000 fine (the Thai taxi driver paid) was, in turn given to the assaulted German tourist? That gesture would have truly been a sincere apology.

One thing I've always appreciated about the German mentality, is their penchant for communicating openly, and directly to the point, for example:_

That's definitely a real serious gesture, from a farang_ to a Thai bloke. That German tourist was very lucky, indeed!

    555. The German is lucky he didn't get sued for the bruising on the chap's foot.

If that poor kid actually did flip-off the taxi driver, then I'd say "the kid" must be living in some fantasy world, even in Germany these days, eh?

There have been cases of westerners doing jail time for it in the UAE and nearby countries.

Best not to use any hand gestures in those parts when driving.

    The expressionless stare is better.
