Lusaka, Zambia brings back nothing but bad memories from the early 90's.
^^You sure you don't mean Hampstead Heath ?
Nobody visits Hemel Hempstead deliberately

Dhaka followed closely by Alexandria.
Kodaicanal, Tamil Nadu, absolutely stunning with lots to do/visit if you don't have a fractured foot from when your rickshaw crashed on the way up.
I lived there in the early 80s. 2 houses down held all night parties with booming reggae bass every Friday and Saturday nights. Babies were crying, no one could sleep and the police did nothing. I remember back in 74 walking into the cafe just off Ashley road and asking for beans and eggs on toast. Never got served.
Hull in the 60s and early 70s was the pits. Full of peroxide blondss with their black roots showing, pushing half broken prams, a cigarette dangling out of the corner of their mouths, they'd shout at one of the kids they were dragging by the arm to the local shops. 'Shurrup Sharon and stop yer snivelling.'
Port Talbot, S. Wales. Don't know what it's like now, but used to work down there on the steel plants shutdowns as an engineering apprentice in the early-mid 80's. Even in the Summer it was a grim place, compounded by the obvious antipathy for anyone speaking with an English accent.
Did a few weekend Hastings trips in the early 90s. Many evenings were spent stoned drinking 20/20 or Thunderbirds. Wasn't worth visiing the town or beach as both had been discontinued some years before
Funny that, as my main candidates would be Edmonton - a ten minute bus ride from Tottenham, and Hastings.
Etched on my memory is wandering up the pier one rainy morning in January and noticing that inside a bingo hall there one of the star prizes was a Frey Bentos pie.
it's been done up since those days. The pier itself looks pretty impressive, anyway.
Second prize was a vesta beef curry
Didn't realise they were still sold at high end supermarkets

Delhi and Agra. And probably Singapore in 1972.
^I really enjoyed my three years in India - Singapore I've never really liked that much, although I imagine it would be an acceptable place to work for a few years.
Donsak, which is the small ferry port when travelling to/from Samui and Surat Thani province.
The town stank of decaying fish and was full of mosquitos.
I worked for a few months teaching English at the government high school, which was all OK until I caught Dengue Fever from the mosquitos. Toughed it out for a while but then felt so bad I decided to use my medical insurance and stay in Phuket International Hospital to recover. The car drive from Donsak to Phuket was a real challenge, because I had to stop every 30 minutes to rest from driving because I was totally exhausted.
I resigned from the job and was replaced by a Swedish pensioner....
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
A company town in Sumatra. Left it twice. Not going back for a third bite. Only one bar, only one "decent" expensive "restaurant" with crap foot. Same dull faces in the bar every time, all talking about the job. Had a driving range but I don't play golf. Nearest town two hours away only good for whoring and golf. Got cabin fever both times.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all
Those who cannot change their mind, cannot change anything.
Passed through one small town in Laos, Seno possibly. No trash collection so a bit behind all the shophouses on the main road was a pile of trash. Loads of plastics, I felt sad and somwhat ashamed. Truely a sad sight.
As "crap" towns go Ras Gharib (locally known as Ras Garbage) located about 4 hours drive from Cairo on the Red sea is one of the most disgusting places I have had to spend any time! It's an old oil town that has had numerous oil spills over the years, none of which have been cleaned up as it is considered they add to the local beauty!
It is considered to be one of the most windy places on the planet, which is a good thing as all around the town they have been venting H2S for years from the numerous oil wells, unfortunately the wind changes direction regularly, the locals all have a strange look about them due to the years of inhaling noxious gases! the local wildlife which consists of only flies are immune to the gas sadly!
The positives about this place? only the road out springs to mind....
I forgot to mention "the birds of Egypt" these consist of millions of plastic bags sailing on the wind covering virtually every grain of sand in the Arabian desert, Thailand complains about Plastic bags, just take them all to Ras Garbage and let the wind take them! no one there would even notice! Garbage disposal is interesting as there is none, between the smell of rotting garbage, H2S and shit blowing everywhere paradise it ain't!

PERTH , Australia !
lived all over OZ. worked in LOS, PNG, Lived in Lae for christs sake but nothing beats Perth as an over rated crime infested expensive shit hole of a town.
Would prefer to live in a squat in Fitzroy crossing or Marble bar outside in summer than live in Perth.
Tianjin in China was a terrible place to spend 6 months.
Food shit, coal fires everyday and minus 16 degrees on a good day.
